Looking to catch the elusive Eon Duo in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? Our guide breaks down how to get a Soul Slate and capture Latias and Latios in Ramanas Park.
Alright, so you've made it to Ramanas Park in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and you're ready to snag yourselves the legendary Eon twins, Latias and Latios! It's a bit of a trek, but totally worth it. Here's how you do it.
Where is the Soul Room?
You'll find the Soul Room located to the north-west of the Discovery Room in Ramanas Park. Think of it as the next cave over from where you started. To even get into Ramanas Park, you'll need to have obtained the National Pokédex first. Once you're inside the Soul Room, you'll see a pedestal right in front of you. This is where you'll place your Soul Slate.
Using a Soul Slate lets you battle and attempt to catch either Latias or Latios. Which one shows up first is totally random, so if you want both, you'll need two Soul Slates.
How to Get a Soul Slate
This is where the grind comes in! You'll need to collect a good amount of Mysterious Shards. You can buy a Soul Slate from the vendor at the bottom of the Ramanas Park gatehouse, but only *after* you've finished up in the Discovery Room (meaning you've caught Regirock, Regice, and Registeel). Each Soul Slate will set you back either 3 Mysterious Shard S or 1 Mysterious Shard L. You can dig these up in the Grand Underground once you have the National Pokédex. The 'S' shards cover a 2x2 area when dug, and the 'L' shards cover a 3x3 space. The 'L' ones are rarer, naturally.
How to Catch Latias
Latias, which debuted way back in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, is the more defensive of the two Eon Pokémon. It's level 70 when you encounter it.
- Latias — Level 70, Type: Psychic/Dragon
Latias has some interesting moves like Reflect Type (which copies your Pokémon's type) and Guard Split (which averages stats). It also has Psychic for STAB and Healing Wish, though that last one won't do much for you in this fight. Honestly, surviving Latias isn't too tough. A Dark-type Pokémon will completely resist its Psychic moves. When Latias's HP gets low, definitely switch to False Swipe to make sure you don't accidentally knock it out. Keep an eye on Reflect Type, though – usually, a type resists itself, but not for Ghosts or Dragons. Once its HP is low and you've applied paralysis or sleep, start tossing out those Ultra Balls. If you haven't caught it after 10 turns, switch to Timer Balls.
How to Catch Latios
Latios, also from Ruby and Sapphire, is the offensive powerhouse of the pair. It's also level 70.
- Latios — Level 70, Type: Psychic/Dragon
Latios can hit hard with Dragon Pulse, Luster Purge, and Zen Headbutt. It can also use Dragon Dance to boost its Attack and Speed, making those Zen Headbutts even scarier. It's a good idea to paralyze Latios early on to slow it down. To help you survive, having a Dark-type Pokémon out front is a great move, as it'll take zero damage from Luster Purge and Zen Headbutt. Pokémon that are dual Psychic and Fairy-type are also excellent choices, as they resist Dragon Pulse and take no damage from its Psychic moves. As long as your team can handle the hits, it's a pretty straightforward battle. Once Latios is weakened, just like with Latias, start using your Ultra Balls or Timer Balls.
After Catching Latias and Latios
Once you've successfully caught Latias, you'll find a Petaya Berry on the ground. Catch Latios, and an Apicot Berry will appear. After you've caught both of them, keep an eye out for the Soul Dew! This is a fantastic held item for Latias and Latios that boosts their Psychic and Dragon damage by a solid 20%. It used to be way more powerful in older games, but it's still a great boost.
