Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: Hearthome City Items

Your first visit to Hearthome City in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is brief, focusing on story progression. You'll be directed to the Contest Hall, where you'll meet Fantina, the Gym Leader, though she is not yet available for battle. Inside the Contest Hall, you'll receive a special outfit. Afterward, you'll encounter your rival for a battle before departing the city.

Rival Battle

The rival's team varies based on your starter Pokémon. They will always begin with a Starly, which can be easily defeated with an Electric-type Pokémon like Shinx. Your rival will also have a Pokémon weak to your starter and their own starter Pokémon.
