Dive into 'The Frozen Heart' campaign for Songs of Conquest! Learn essential gameplay basics, explore movement and exploration tips, and understand strategic town building to conquer your foes.

Hey there! So you're diving into 'The Frozen Heart' campaign in Songs of Conquest? Awesome! This guide is going to walk you through the essentials, helping you get a solid grip on the game's mechanics and giving you a leg up, especially for the official campaigns.

This guide is focused on PvE, so keep in mind that competitive play might have a few different strategies. But for your journey through the campaign, we'll cover everything you need to know to get started.

Gameplay Basics

Movement and Exploration

First things first: always explore. Seriously, don't be shy about it. You'll find crucial resources that boost your economy, and capturing buildings gives you more income and better visibility on the map. Remember, if you're not looting, your opponent might be!

To make looting faster and more efficient, try to increase your Wielder's movement stat and get a secondary Wielder. If your secondary Wielder can grab all the loot, your main Wielder can focus on more fights each turn. Oh, and a super handy tip: use the ALT key! It shows you everything you can interact with, and it's not just for interactables – it can even reveal items hidden behind environmental objects. So, use ALT often!

Making a Strategy

Before you jump in, it's a good idea to have a plan. Decide which units you're aiming for and what research you want to prioritize. Focusing on a few specific units means research costs are lower, and you'll reinforce them quicker. The trade-off is that you'll be less flexible and won't be able to cast as wide a variety of spells.

Don't be afraid to experiment during the first few maps of most campaigns. They're usually a bit easier, which gives you the perfect opportunity to figure out which tactics and units you like best. This way, you can form a much better plan for the tougher, final maps.

Using Your Build Slots Wisely

How you build up your towns is super important. Here’s a quick rundown of the building slots you get:

  • Towns: 7 small building slots, 3 medium building slots, and 2 large building slots.
  • Large Settlements: 3 small building slots, 2 medium building slots, and 1 large building slot.
  • Small Settlements: 2 small building slots and 1 medium building slot.

If you find yourself with free building slots, think about your current situation:

  • Need Resources? If you're short on rare resources, consider building multiple Markets (up to 5). They improve trading prices, which is key to unlocking your highest-tier units, making upgrades cheaper and faster.
  • Need More Units? If you're running out of troops, focus on one unit type and use Rally Points to reinforce your armies.
  • Enemy Approaching? Build a Tower! They're powerful, only take one turn to build, and can be used to take down dangerous creatures like Cheluns or Necromancers. Even if you can't wipe out their whole army, you can damage them and soften them up for your next encounter.

Artifacts

You'll stumble upon a lot of Artifacts during your campaign. Some are great, some... not so much. But even if you find a 'bad' artifact, don't just ditch it! It's often worth holding onto it to sell later at an Artifact shop or give to another Wielder.

Keep an eye out for artifact sets too. While they aren't enabled in the base campaigns (Arleon, Rana, Loth & Barya), they can be incredibly powerful, especially early on. If you get the chance, aiming for them is definitely worth it.
