Learn the essential gameplay basics for Songs of Conquest, including movement, exploration, strategic planning, town building, and artifact usage in this comprehensive PVE guide.

This guide provides an introduction to the gameplay basics of Songs of Conquest, focusing on PVE. It covers essential mechanics and strategies to help new players understand the game.

Gameplay Basics

Movement, Explore!

  • Always explore the map to find resources, capture buildings, and gain visibility. Looting is crucial; if you don't, your opponent will.
  • Increase your Wielder's movement stat and utilize a secondary Wielder to speed up looting and exploration. This allows your main Wielder to focus on more combat encounters per turn.
  • Use the ALT key frequently to reveal interactable objects and hidden items.

Make a strategy

  • Decide on your unit goals and research priorities. Focusing on a few units makes research cheaper and reinforcement faster, but limits flexibility and spell variety.
  • Experiment with different tactics and units during the early maps (1-3) of most campaigns, as they are generally easier. This helps you discover your preferred playstyle and plan more effectively for the final map.

Make use of your build slots

  • Towns have 7 small, 3 medium, and 2 large building slots.
  • Large Settlements have 3 small, 2 medium, and 1 large building slot.
  • Small Settlements have 2 small and 1 medium building slot.
  • If you have free building slots:
    • Consider building multiple markets (up to 5) if you lack rare resources. Markets improve trade prices, unlock higher-tier units, and reduce upgrade costs.
    • If you are running low on units, focus on reinforcing one unit type using Rally Points.
    • If an enemy is approaching, build a tower. Towers are powerful, take one turn to construct, and can damage dangerous units like Cheluns or Necromancers, softening them up for future battles.

Artifacts

  • Artifacts found during campaigns can be beneficial or detrimental. Even negative artifacts can be sold at an Artifact shop or given to another Wielder.
  • Artifact sets are powerful, especially early on, but are not enabled in the base campaigns (Arleon, Rana, Loth & Barya). Aim for them if possible.
  • Be aware that some individual artifacts are stronger than sets; mix and match as needed.
