Learn how to become a Jedi in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This guide covers Jedi training, class choices (Guardian, Sentinel, Consular), and Force powers.

The Council discusses your dream, and you can choose to tell the truth or lie. You learn about your special bond with Bastila, the Sith, and the Jedi Council. They accept you for training and send you to Dantooine to investigate what corrupted Revan and Malak.

You will then undergo Jedi training, mastering your skills to be accepted into the order. To become a full Padawan, you must complete three trials.

1. Jedi Trials

Find Master Zhar in the training room, adjacent to the main chamber with the other Jedi Masters. He will explain the first trial: knowing the Jedi Code. Speak to any Master to learn the code, and to Master Dorak for recent Jedi Order history. Return to Master Zhar for your test. The correct answers are:

  • There is no emotion... There is peace.
  • There is no ignorance... There is knowledge.
  • There is no passion... There is serenity.
  • There is no chaos... There is harmony.
  • There is no death... There is the Force.

Master Zhar will congratulate you and instruct you to speak with Master Dorak to create your lightsaber. Dorak will discuss lightsaber colors and their meanings, then ask you questions to determine your best path, though the choice is yours.

  • Jedi Guardian: Similar to the Soldier class, with fewer class skills and 2 skill points per level if Intelligence is 12+. Special ability: Force Jump for major damage. Receives the most health per level.
  • Jedi Sentinel: Similar to the Scoundrel class, with more class skills and skill points per level. Special ability: Resistance to mind-affecting powers (fear, horror, insanity). Similar to Guardian but without Force Jump and fewer feats.
  • Jedi Consular: Similar to the Scout class, with similar class skills and 2 skill points per level at level 14 Intelligence. Special ability: Enemies have a greater chance of failing Force power resistance. Gains two Force powers per level up every 4-5 levels. Receives the most Force points per level. Good for dark side players due to offensive dark powers.

You will receive a colored crystal based on your choice and level up, gaining Force powers.

2. New Feats

Several new Jedi-related feats are awarded for free, some specific to classes. Two are given to all regardless of class:

  • Jedi Defense: Focuses on ranged weapons. Generally not worth upgrading as most ranged enemies are weak, and melee combat is common.
  • Weapon Proficiency: A good feat, but not essential to upgrade. Dark side players should wait for an item that upgrades it later. Light side players cannot equip it due to dark side restrictions.

3. Force Powers

Force powers draw on the light side, dark side, or neither. Light side characters can use dark side powers, but at a higher Force point cost. Force points regenerate slowly in combat and quickly out of combat.

  • Light Players: Focus on defensive powers that benefit you and the party. Cast defensive powers before engaging tough enemies.
  • Dark Players: Utilize party members' light side powers that affect the entire party while you focus on attacking.
