Discover Jarrod's additions to the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic guide, including side quests, character tips, and combat strategies.
This section contains additions and observations from a player named Jarrod, expanding on the official guide for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Jarrod's Dance Side Quest:
In the lower cantina's bounty room, a Twi'lek girl is auditioning for a dance troupe and needs a partner. Players can choose to help her for Light Side Points (LSP) or ruin her audition for Dark Side Points (DSP). To help her, dance close beside her, then very close beside her, and then close beside her again. This yields LSP and approximately 255 XP.
Genoharadan Side Quests and Light Side Mastery:
It is possible to achieve full Light Side mastery even after completing the Genoharadan side quests. The player regained full Light Side mastery on the Unknown World while trying to turn Bastila back to the light. Appealing to Malak also yielded more LSP, though the player was already full Light Side by then. The Genoharadan quests are considered worthwhile, especially for obtaining a +4 Strength Gauntlet.
Sith Academy and the Mandalorian Prisoner:
In the Sith Academy, players can gain LSP (or avoid DSP) by interrogating a Mandalorian prisoner. If the player has a high enough Computer skill, they can put the prisoner into a catatonic state as requested. Failing to do so results in the prisoner's death and DSP. Saving him is believed to grant LSP.
CNS Strength Enhancer:
The CNS Strength enhancer, found in a shop on Dantooine, is the only one of its kind in the game. It provides a +2 Strength bonus. Combined with the +4 Strength from the Genoharadan gauntlets, it significantly boosts lightsaber attacks.
Character and Item Observations:
- Jolee: Granting Jolee the implant level 1 feat and a +1 Constitution bonus can increase his vitality to nearly 200.
- Sith Mask: This item grants immunity to mind-affecting abilities and helps regenerate Force Points. It can be switched with the Combat Sensor (+2 Dexterity) and the Demolitions Sensor (+8 Awareness, +4 Demolitions).
- HK-47: The player's low Repair skill prevented HK-47's upgrade. However, his side quest concludes once it's revealed the player is Revan, making the upgrade less critical. (Editor Note: Repairing HK-47 is for the full experience, as his repair stories are interesting.)
- Terentatek Strategy: The Stasis Force power is effective against Terentateks most of the time. To fight them in the tomb, creep slowly along the left wall. When one turns to face you, retreat to the door and fight it there. The other Terentatek will not be alerted, allowing for a divide-and-conquer approach. Dark Side players can use Force Storm for a more powerful attack against both simultaneously.
- Star Forge Computer Spikes: At least 50 computer spikes are needed on the Star Forge to obtain Star Forge robes for the player and Juhani (Jolee cannot wear them). Bringing more spikes allows for deactivation of robot creation machines in the factory. Each robot creation costs 8 spikes and deactivates a generator. Approximately 100 spikes are needed to enter the Star Forge. (Editor Note: Robot creation machines can also be bypassed by breaking down the door, or by collecting computer spikes that drop from defeated droids.)
- Mission's Skills: Mission is valuable for her Security, Demolitions, Repair, and Computer skills. However, some mines, particularly on the lower level of the Temple, may be undetectable regardless of Awareness skill.
Combat Observations:
- Marl: This fight is deceptively easy. Marl only uses melee attacks. Players can circle him, attacking when he is at his farthest point. Quick blaster shots, rather than special attacks, can gradually deplete his health without him getting close enough to retaliate.
- Twitch: This fight is also deceptively easy. Twitch uses blasters. Upon combat start, activate the energy shield and Sith shield (if possible). Throw a concussion grenade, and once Twitch is incapacitated, follow up with frag grenades. Shields can mitigate blaster hits, allowing for a victory without losing vitality.
- Calo Nord/Davik: In this confrontation, focus attacks on Calo Nord. When his health is low, the ceiling will collapse, defeating both him and Davik. Calo can be quickly defeated with a grenade and subsequent attacks from Canderous and Mission.
Player Build and Strategy Notes:
The player is experimenting with a Scoundrel who becomes a Consular, focusing on Dexterity and Wisdom for a defensive pure caster build. Saving levels is a viable strategy, though duel ring fights can be challenging and rely on successful dice rolls.
Rackghoul Serum:
It is possible to gain LSP after giving the rackghoul serum to the doctor, even when using Persuade to gain more credits. High Persuade skill may not be a direct factor in gaining LSP.
