Rogues are the biggest targets in PvP combat. If you are spotted, all enemies will attempt to kill you. The only viable PvP rogue specialization is subtlety, which enhances tricks by increasing their duration and reducing their cooldowns. Subtlety is the only specialization that offers a chance to escape being overwhelmed and mobbed.

In large group fights, rogues should only target enemy casters. A rogue has no chance against a full-health plate-wearer. When engaging casters, rogues should immediately use their escape abilities. Warlocks will force you to flee and apply damage-over-time (DoT) effects, priests do the same, and mages will likely freeze you, use blink, and cast frostbolt. A rogue can only break free and then either vanish or sprint to reach cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).

If a line of enemy casters is present and a rogue appears near one, the entire line will focus on the rogue, and even nearby non-casters will attack. Therefore, outside of acting as suicidal decoys, rogues are best suited for single combat against any target that is not a plate-wearer. Rogues are essentially a suicide class because, without healing, they will always die in large group combat.

Hunters are the most effective at locating rogues, possessing the ability to track hidden targets and using flares. Traps are also a threat, though rogues in stealth can easily disarm them. The only other method to find a rogue is by using area-of-effect (AoE) abilities, which spell instant death for a rogue.
