Learn the essential combat strategies for World of Warcraft: Midnight's battlegrounds, including Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin. Master defense, offense, and capture tactics.

The key to all combat maps in World of Warcraft: Midnight is defense. While offense might win in Warsong Gulch, it's risky. There are currently 5 battlegrounds and one battle zone, which unlock as you level. Most offer vendors where you can trade marks for items. Entry points include the zone the BG is based in, city battle terraces, or the player vs. player tab on your toolbar.

Warsong Gulch (Min Level: 10, Team Size: 10, Time Limit: 25 minutes, Objective: Capture the flag three times)

Warsong Gulch (WSG) is the smallest and most competitive map. Strategies include 'half and half' offense/defense, '3 on D 7 on O', and 'middle control'. Playing Horde is often easier due to twinking. Capturing a flag typically involves one tank/paladin and a healer against a small defense, or a group of 5 with two healers against heavy defense. Once a flag is taken, the flag carrier (FC) must return to their flag room (FR). Offense strategies depend on enemy defense; breaking through heavy defense may require heals or a 'twink' to grab the flag. Fake capping can lure defenders away. Defense focuses on the FR, with players hiding to avoid ranged attacks. Hunters should set traps. If the FC leaves the FR, they must be killed within 50 yards to prevent a cap. To recapture a flag, track its last known location (tunnel, ramp, graveyard). Focus DPS on healers if attacking the FC directly, and use slow effects on the FC. Getting the flag back often requires teammates to help drop the FC or keep them in place. As FC, you cannot stealth or mount. Teammates can help by holding enemies or providing heals. Hiding spots for the flag include the graveyard, the roof/ramp (single entry point), or within the FR. Horde is recommended for an easier experience due to frequent twinking.

Arathi Basin (Min Level: 20, Team Size: 15, Objective: Control nodes until 1600 points)

Arathi Basin (AB) is a balanced BG where one player can't dictate the outcome. Five nodes exist: one near each base, two on the sides, and one in the middle. Controlling three nodes is usually sufficient, but controlling four or five leads to quicker wins. Nodes generate 10 points every five seconds when uncontested. Offense should not involve the entire team; single-player caps are possible if nodes are left unguarded. Rogues and druids excel at capping nodes. If a fight occurs at a node, attempt to cap it to draw enemies away. Luring enemies away is a common tactic. Attacking a node from multiple sides can also work. For defense, keep one player on uncontested flags. Heavily defend nodes when necessary.
