Understand World of Warcraft weapon and defense skills. Learn how they impact combat against higher-level enemies and NPCs.

Weapon Skill: A higher weapon skill in World of Warcraft increases your chance to hit and critically strike. It also reduces the likelihood of your attacks being missed, blocked, dodged, or parried by enemies. Even if you land a hit with a low weapon skill, expect minimal base damage.

Defense Skill: Defense skill in World of Warcraft decreases the chance that enemies will critically hit you and also reduces the chance they will hit you at all.

These skills are primarily designed to provide a tangible benefit for players and characters of different levels, ensuring that a max-level character (level 80 in this context) has a distinct advantage.

PvE Mechanics: In Player vs. Environment (PvE) content, your skills prevent lower-level characters from defeating enemies significantly above their own level. If an enemy is 4 levels higher than you, you can expect to be hit with crushing blows, dealing major damage. Enemies 8 levels above you will have skulls displayed over their heads, indicating that you are unlikely to defeat them.

Additionally, you will deal less damage to higher-level characters and Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Damage over Time (DoT) effects applied to higher-level NPCs will tick for very little damage.
