Blood is the damage per second (DPS) and healing specialization. Its healing capabilities are focused solely on the Death Knight (DK) themselves, making this plate-wearing class popular in both Player versus Player (PvP) and Player versus Environment (PvE) content due to its high DPS and survivability.

Frost is considered the best specialization for tanking, though the advantage over other specs is not substantial. While all specializations can tank adequately, Frost excels in this role. It also provides strong damage abilities and the most effective snare in the game, comparable to freezing an enemy. The dual-wielding DPS variant of Frost has also seen increased popularity.

Unholy is a specialization that is gaining recognition. It offers improved range, disease-based abilities, a permanent pet, and enhanced anti-magic capabilities. This spec is particularly effective in PvP for countering spellcasting opponents.
