Utgarde Keep

Your friendly guide to Utgarde Keep in World of Warcraft! Learn strategies for Prince Keleseth, Skarvald/Dalronn, and Ingvar to conquer this Heroic dungeon.

Alright, so you're heading into Utgarde Keep! It's in the Howling Fjord and while it's a bit of a trek from Dalaran, it's actually the easiest Heroic dungeon out there. Most of the mobs are pretty straightforward, especially after you deal with the drake trash. Clearing this one is a great warm-up for the Pinnacle, another Heroic nearby.

Bosses: 3

Boss Strategy:

Prince Keleseth

• Stats / Weaknesses: Standard boss, but has a freezing mechanic.
• Phases: 1
• Strategy: The main thing here is positioning. Have everyone stack up close to the table. When Keleseth freezes someone, a DPS needs to be ready to break them out quickly, especially if it's the tank or healer. Your tank will also need to manage any adds that spawn.

Skarvald / Dalronn

• Stats / Weaknesses: Two bosses fighting you at once. Killing Dalronn first turns him into a dangerous ghost.
• Phases: 1 (but with a crucial mechanic)
• Strategy: Don't just focus on one! Start by burning Dalronn down to about 10-20% health. Then, switch your focus to Skarvald. The key is to try and kill them both around the same time. If Dalronn dies completely, he'll come back as a ghost that casts like crazy, making things much harder. Keep him alive but weak, then finish them together.

Ingvar

• Stats / Weaknesses: Has a powerful shout and a spinning sword attack.
• Phases: 2
• Strategy:
  • Phase 1: Your tank should turn Ingvar away from the rest of the group to avoid his 'Smash' ability hitting everyone. Just burn him down here, but don't use your major cooldowns yet.
  • Phase 2: As soon as Phase 2 starts, have everyone hide behind a pillar to avoid his first 'Shout'. This shout hits really hard. Once that passes, unleash all your cooldowns and DPS him down as fast as you can. If you don't kill him quickly enough, he'll throw a spinning sword that you absolutely need to dodge.
