Mt. Kolze

The First Encounter: You'll face off against Vargas and two of his Ipooh minions. Vargas isn't too tough here; his basic attack is weak, and his Gale Cut hits the whole party for about 50 damage (or 100+ if it focuses on one person). The Ipoohs can only use basic attacks and Claw, which is a bit stronger. Your first priority is to take out those Ipoohs. Have Terra use her area-of-effect Fire attacks, Edgar can use his Auto Crossbow, and Locke should just stick to regular attacks.

Taking on Vargas: Once the Ipoohs are down, focus on Vargas. It's a good idea to use a party-wide Cure spell beforehand, just to be safe. Keep attacking him. After you've dealt a little over 700 damage, a cutscene will trigger, and Sabin, Edgar's twin brother, will show up!

Sabin's Arrival and the Blitz: Vargas won't give up easily. He'll use Blizzard Fist to knock out everyone except Sabin, and then follow up with Doom Fist, which damages Sabin and inflicts the Doom status effect. You've only got about sixty seconds before Sabin is defeated, so you need to act fast.

Mastering Raging Fist: When Sabin appears, pay close attention to the on-screen prompts. You'll need to use his special ability, Raging Fist. To do this, select “Blitz” from the command menu. When the cursor highlights Sabin, enter the button combination shown on the screen. If you nail it, Sabin will unleash Raging Fist and end the battle! This is your first introduction to Blitz techniques, so pay attention – you'll need to know how to use them going forward.

Moving On: After the battle, enjoy the scene where Sabin officially joins your party. Now, head into the cavern. It's a pretty straightforward path, but keep an eye out for a chest containing a Tent. Once you're outside the cave, head south to leave Mt. Kolze.
