Follow this Final Fantasy VI walkthrough to find and recruit the powerful Yeti, Umaro, in Narshe. Learn strategies for defeating the Ice Dragon and Valigarmanda along the way.
Walkthrough
- 1At the Narshe town entrance, head north into the mines. Follow the first eastbound path to exit the mines.
- 2Go west across the bridge, then ascend the stairs north into the cave. Exit the cave and proceed up the mountain path. Consider learning Mog's final Dance here.
- 3You will encounter the Ice Dragon. It uses basic attacks, Hit, Absolute Zero, Avalanche, and Northern Cross. A cheap strategy is to inflict Berserk on it and summon Phantom for invulnerability, then attack. Alternatively, use Confuse. The dragon is weak to Fire spells (Trance Terra with Fire spells is effective). Other effective status ailments include Darkness, Silence, Haste, and Poison.
- 4After the Ice Dragon, proceed north and use the Save Point. Continue north to approach a frozen Esper. The Esper within will attack you (this is Valigarmanda).
- 5Valigarmanda uses basic attacks, Hit, Blizzaga, Freezing Dust, and Rasp. It is weak to Fire. Use Zona Seeker for Magic Defense and Kirin for Regen. Summon Ifrit for Fire damage and cast Fire/Fira/Firaga. Sabin can use Rising Phoenix Blitz or Fire spells.
- 6After defeating Valigarmanda, it becomes a Magicite that teaches "-ga" spells. Enter the nearby cliff opening.
- 7You will arrive in Yeti's Cave. You can go to three portions of the cave. Take the middle path to find an X-Ether in a chest.
- 8Return to the entrance and go into the western cave. Beware of pitfalls. Open the chest here to find three Tonberries.
- 9Go back to the entrance and take the northeastern door. Go northeast and downstairs. Use the small staircase to reach a higher ledge, then go southwest to find a Gauntlet in a chest.
- 10Continue east, north, and upstairs. Go east, triggering the second switch you find. In the new area, go north and heal.
- 11Examine the bone statue to find Midgardsormr magicite. Then, prepare to fight the Yeti.
- 12The Yeti uses basic attacks, Tackle, Jump, Hailstone, Snowstorm, Snowball, and Avalanche. It will use Green Cherry to cast Haste, Protect, and Shell on itself. A cheap strategy is to inflict Berserk and summon Phantom, then attack. Otherwise, use Fire-based attacks and spells. Use Dispel after the Green Cherry is used and keep a healer ready. The Yeti is physically strong and boosts its stats with Green Cherry, so defeat it quickly.
- 13After the fight, with Mog in your party, speak with Umaro. Mog will entice Umaro to join your group, and Umaro will head to the Falcon.
