Ultima Buster

Learn the best strategies to defeat the Ultima Buster in Final Fantasy VI. Discover tips on using Runic, Reflect, and Reraise to overcome its powerful attacks like Ultima and Meteor.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Attacks: Basic Attack (50% more powerful), Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Quake, Tsunami, Northern Cross, Southern Cross, Flare Star, Meteor, Ultima.
• Ultima Attack: Used every twelve times you damage the boss. Deals 2,500 damage two turns after it's triggered.

Strategy:

• Lazy but Effective: Cast Reflect on everyone. The Ultima Buster will often reflect its own powerful spells back at itself, dealing significant damage. You'll still need to manage healing from attacks like Meteor.
• Surviving Ultima: To survive the Ultima Buster's Ultima attack, ensure you have Reraise cast on yourself beforehand. Alternatively, have a character use Runic to absorb the spell, or use Quetzalli at the second yellow flash.
• Aggressive Approach: If you prefer not to rely on Reflect, dedicate a party member to continuously casting Reraise on the group. Cast Hastega and Mighty Guard for buffs. Put Reflect on party members most vulnerable to magic. Then, focus on using Quick with powerful spells like Ultima, Meteor, or Flare for high damage. Remember to reapply Reraise after the Ultima attack if it was consumed.
• Elemental Protection: Be aware that Tsunami is a powerful attack, so consider elemental protection for your party.
• Terra's Trance: If Terra is in Trance, dualcasting Ultima can be incredibly strong.

After the Battle:

Once the Ultima Buster is defeated, you'll find a Save Point. It's recommended to use a Tent and save your progress before continuing. Head south and out of the door, then go upstairs into a room with pipes. Enter the leftmost pipe.

You'll emerge outside. Go southwest to find a Force Shield. Continue south through the door and open the chest to receive a Ribbon. Step on the nearby switch to allow the first party to advance, but it's best to wait a moment. Go back outside and head west to find Force Armor. Return east and go through the doorway. Head north into a red-carpeted area. Heal your party and prepare to face the dragon.
