Gold Dragon

Learn the best strategies to defeat the Gold Dragon in Final Fantasy VI, including using Berserk, Phantom, and Celes/Gogo's Runic ability.

Alright, so you've made it to the Gold Dragon! This guy's pretty straightforward, mostly just hitting you with Thunder spells and its basic attack. Honestly, it's not too tough if you've got a solid offense ready.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Attacks: Basic Attack (Hit), Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Gigavolt.
• Reflect Interaction: If you cast Reflect on your party, the Gold Dragon will cast it on itself to bypass your spells. Don't bother with Reflect!
• Weakness: Thunder-based attacks.

Strategies:

• Ragnarok's Metamorphose: There's about a 1 in 10 chance this will work, so it's more of a last resort.
• Berserk + Phantom: This is a super popular and effective method. Cast Berserk on the dragon to force it to only use its basic Attack, then use Phantom to deal damage. You'll be golden!
• Celes/Gogo + Runic: If you've got Celes or Gogo, this is a fantastic strategy. First, cast Shell on your party using Mighty Guard to reduce any stray damage. Then, have Celes or Gogo use Runic every single turn. With Vanish cast on them, you're practically invincible.

Dealing Damage:

Once you've got the dragon under control with one of the above strategies, you'll still need to deal damage. Basic Attacks work well, especially if you've used Valor to boost your physical attacks. Spells like Flood, Leviathan, and Aqua Breath are also great options.

After you've defeated the Gold Dragon, head west through the doorway. Follow the path until you emerge outside again, then go north to a switch. Activate it, and you'll need to swap your teams.

Now, go south along the path until you see a door to the west. Before you go through, open the chest nearby to grab the Red Cap. Once you've got that, head through the door and go north two areas. You'll find yourself in a place that feels a lot like the Magitek Research Facility. Keep going north to find two more chests containing the Gauntlet and Nutkin Suit. Seriously, grab these – another Ribbon is always super useful!

Now, backtrack all the way south, then continue south again to find another door. Go through it and head west along the path. You'll soon find a chest holding the Hero's Ring. Grab it, then go north to the next area. Here, go west, use the Save Point to Tent and Save your game, and then continue towards the steps. Get ready, because you're about to face another boss...
