Defeat Ymir in final fantasy vi's Narshe Mine. Learn Ymir's attacks like Slime and Megavolt, and how to target its head for a quicker victory.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Proceed north after the battle to find a large crystal containing an Esper frozen for a thousand years.
  2. 2
As you approach, your ?????? character will begin to act strangely, and her companions will vanish.
  3. 3
The Esper will then interact with the ?????? character, causing her Magitek Armor to explode and rendering her unconscious.

Boss: Ymir

Ymir has a basic physical attack and can use Slime, which deals damage and can inflict Slow. Its shell is a separate entity with its own attacks and stats. The shell uses Megavolt, which can deplete approximately 30% of your party’s HP. Megavolt can only be used six times, costing 17-20 MP per use, for a total of 120 MP. After its MP is depleted, the shell becomes safe to attack.

Ymir uses Slime as a regular attack that can cause Slow. When Ymir “Gwarks,” it retreats into its shell. Do not attack it while it is in its shell.

If you choose to attack the shell, avoid using Thunder-based attacks, as they may undo your progress. Alternatively, you can focus attacks on Ymir's head, which takes less time. Be aware that the head will occasionally retreat into the shell. In such instances, wait for everyone's ATB gauge to fill before continuing your assault once the head reappears. Consider using Magitek Missile when it is ??????’s turn.

Tips
  • Attacking Ymir's head directly is a faster strategy than targeting the shell.
  • If you are determined to defeat the shell for an Ether, be prepared for a lengthy battle.
  • Avoid Thunder-based attacks when targeting the shell.
  • Ether (if the shell is defeated after its MP is depleted)
