Learn about the user interface elements in Hitman: Absolution, including the radar, health meter, weapon indicator, and Instinct system. Understand the scoring system and game structure.
This section details the user interface elements and game structure of Hitman: Absolution.
Radar: The radar displays enemy positions. Gray dots indicate enemies above or below Agent 47. The radar has a distance limit and does not cover the entire area.
Health Meter: Located on the left side of the radar, this meter shows Agent 47's health. When depleted, Agent 47 dies. Health regenerates when out of combat, but the amount is dependent on difficulty and earned Assassin Techniques. First Aid Cabinets, found on walls and glowing green, can fully heal Agent 47 but can only be used once per cabinet. A maximum of three may be present in a chapter section.
Weapon Indicator: The large circle on the right shows the currently equipped weapon.
Instinct Meter: On the right side of the weapon circle, this meter indicates available Instinct. Instinct allows Agent 47 to see paths of nearby people and targets through walls, find objects of interest, initiate Point Shooting sequences, and blend in. The meter fills by taking down people, collecting Evidence, and completing objectives. Instinct is consumed when blending in, using Point Shooting, and scanning at higher difficulties. Earning certain Assassin Techniques can modify Instinct usage. Running out of Instinct prevents blending and Point Shooting but allows scanning. A sixth sense aspect of Instinct provides audio cues for nearby individuals, including heartbeats when very close.
Scoring System: Unlike previous Hitman games, scoring is based on accomplished objectives (e.g., reaching locations, killing Targets). Negative actions like killing, subduing, or being spotted deduct points. Finding Evidence and hiding bodies add to the score. Completing Challenges increases the Score Modifier for higher scores in future playthroughs. Playing at higher difficulties also increases the score. The score and current rating are displayed in the upper left corner. A Silent Assassin rating is only achievable in chapters with Targets.
Game Structure: Hitman: Absolution is story-based and divided into chapters, which are further broken down into sections (up to six per chapter). Each section acts as a mini-mission with its own objectives.
Checkpoints: Each chapter section begins with a starting checkpoint. Glowing glyph symbols serve as user-defined checkpoints to save progress. Using Checkpoint Restart will return Agent 47 to the last activated checkpoint. User-defined checkpoints cannot be used while Guards are on high alert.
