Discover how to unlock the Dark Crusader class in Lords of the Fallen (2023). Learn the steps for both the Deluxe Edition purchase and the in-game storyline unlock.

To unlock the Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen, players have two options: purchase the Deluxe or Collector's Edition of the game, or play through a significant portion of the storyline.

Purchasing the Deluxe Edition grants immediate access to the Dark Crusader class. If this is your intended first playthrough, this is the only way to start with it. The Deluxe Edition is typically priced at approximately £/$10 more than the base game.

How to Unlock the Dark Crusader via the Storyline

The Dark Crusader class can also be unlocked through standard gameplay by progressing through the main storyline and completing a specific questline related to Isaac, the defeated lampbearer whose lantern you wield. This quest chain spans a large part of the game.

To begin Isaac's quest, go to Abandoned Redcopse, near where you fought the Lightreaper after defeating Otto. Reach a broken bridge and pick up the Flayed Skin item. An Umbral path to Isaac's body will be visible but initially blocked.

  1. Examine Stigmas: Find and examine Stigmas throughout the game. Key locations include the start of Lower Calrath (yielding the Wooden Dark Crusader Cross), the start of the Fief of the Chill Curse, an area beyond the Lightreaper’s arena in the Fief, and a location in the Path of Devotion. These are naturally encountered during main story progression.
  2. Defeat Umbral Isaac: Examining the last stigma in the Path of Devotion will trigger an arena encounter in Umbral. You must defeat an Umbral version of Isaac. Upon victory, you will receive the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin.
  3. [OPTIONAL] Stigma in Upper Calrath: A stigma in Upper Calrath depicts a fight between Isaac and the Lightreaper. This is not required for the quest progression.
  4. Return to Abandoned Redcopse: Go back to where you initially found the Flayed Skin. Use the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin to open the previously blocked Umbral path. This will grant you the Paladin's armor set, Isaac’s sword, and rosary.
  5. Summon Isaac: After completing Isaac's quest, his Umbral version can be summoned to aid you in the fight against the Lightreaper in Upper Calrath.

Once you have defeated the Lightreaper, completed the above objectives, and finished the game, the Dark Crusader class will be successfully unlocked. You can then equip the Paladin's gear or start a new game with the Dark Crusader class.
