Dahren Mohran

Master the scripted battle against the colossal Elder Dragon, Dah'ren Mohran, in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Learn its attacks, weak points, and Sandship strategies to survive.

Alright, so you've got a massive Elder Dragon on your hands: Dah'ren Mohran. This guy is so huge, you can't just wail on it like a normal monster. You'll be fighting it from the deck of the Sandship, using its defenses to your advantage. The whole fight is pretty scripted, so learning the flow is key. Basically, the first half is about damaging it from a distance and sometimes climbing on its massive body. You'll also need to use the Dragonator at the front of the ship to stop it from just ramming you. The second half shifts to slowing it down with ranged attacks and then getting up close for melee. Keep an eye on the ship's integrity, too – if it gets too damaged, you'll fail the quest!

Attacks

This fight is a scripted event, so most of what happens is predictable. You can use the Gong or the Ballista Binder to stop most attacks, but remember they have cooldowns, so don't spam them!

• Boulder Fling: Dah'ren Mohran will hurl boulders. Some are smaller and will just knock you around, while others are massive and can wreck the ship's artillery. You can destroy the boulders with enough damage.
• Side Ram: It'll try to ram the ship with its spiny back.
• Frontal Ram: Dah'ren Mohran will line up diagonally and charge straight at the ship with its tusk. This is a big one, so use the Binder or Gong to avoid heavy ship damage.
• Belly Flop: This happens in Phase 2. It inhales, its belly swells up, and then it crashes down onto the ship. Again, the Gong or Ballista are your friends here to mitigate damage to you and the ship.
• Sand Vortex: Also in Phase 2, Dah'ren Mohran sucks in sand and then blasts it at you in a vortex. It won't one-shot you, but it'll take a good chunk of your health.
• Tusk Sweep: It lifts its head and sweeps its massive horn across the deck. You can actually roll through this one to avoid getting tossed.

Breakable Parts

• Arms: You can break each of its arms once.
• Horn: The horn is breakable, and using ballista and cannon balls is the way to go for this.
• Back of the head: There's a weak spot you can break just behind its skull.
• Back Ridge: If you manage to climb onto its body using a ridge on its side, you can reach a weak point on its back.

Weaknesses

• Elemental: Thunder and Dragon are its main elemental weaknesses.

Since this is a scripted battle, the best way to get good at fighting Dah'ren Mohran is to just learn the sequence of its attacks. Pay close attention to when you can use the Dragonator, and always try to climb onto its back for some direct melee damage. You can also mine the ore nodes on its back, and if you're super lucky, you might even find some rare Dah'renstones!

Pro Tip: If you defeat Dah'ren Mohran too quickly in Phase 2, it might die outside the area where you can carve it. Let it get a little closer before you finish it off. If you manage to deal enough damage to tip it over, you can actually enter its mouth for two extra carves. Dah'ren has two main carve points: the head and the body, each giving four carves for a total of eight. To get them all quickly, remember to crouch while carving, and position yourself near the head when carving the body to minimize walking time.
