Learn how to connect with friends and other hunters in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate's online mode. Create or search for rooms and start your multiplayer adventures!
Don’t hunt by yourself! Approximately 66.5% of the fun in Monster Hunter comes from playing with others, be they strangers or friends! And yes, this definitely came from a very defined experiment to see how much fun I was and it is totally more fun when there’s a team of four working together to bring down a big, bad monster.
- 1First things first, you'll need to access the online features. From the World Map, tap the Gathering Hall icon. It's located pretty near the center of the map.
- 2Once you're in the Gathering Hall menu, look for the option that says Change Online Status. Tap that.
- 3Now you'll see two choices: Local Play and Online Play. If you're playing with friends who are physically with you, pick Local Play. For everyone else – whether it's random players or your buddies from afar – you'll want to select Online Play.
- 4After you've successfully connected, you'll have the choice to either Create a Room or Search for a Room.
- 5Creating a Room: This is pretty straightforward. You can toggle various options and messages. If you're playing exclusively with friends, set your room message to something like “Hunting with friends!” and definitely set a passcode so only invited players can join.
- 6Searching for a Room: If you're looking for a game, you can narrow down your search using criteria like Hunter Rank, the monster you want to hunt, quest type, or even the location. A small list of matching rooms will pop up. If none of them look right, don't worry – you can refresh the search and try again.
- 7Joining Friends Directly: If you have a bunch of friends who play Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, you can jump straight into their rooms. Just tap on Friend List. This will show you who on your friends list is currently online and playing, and you can join their room directly from there.
- Once you're in a room, you'll have access to a keyboard for typing messages to your fellow hunters. There are also some handy “hot phrases” available, like greetings, thank yous, apologies, and quick messages for during a hunt (e.g., for coordinating bombs or traps).
- If you need to change your equipment while in a room, don't worry, you won't be kicked out. Just tap on the World Map, head to any village, select Your House, then choose Gathering Hall, and tap Gathering Hall again to return to your room. Your spot will be waiting for you!
