Learn Gravios's weaknesses, attacks, and breakable parts in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Master this tough Flying Wyvern with our expert guide and tips.

Gravios is basically a giant, fully-grown Basarios. It's huge and can shoot fire lasers instead of those little fireballs its younger form spits out. Its armor is super tough, so your weapons will just bounce off unless you've got something with ESP, the Mind's Eye skill, or a Hunting Horn buff like Self-Improvement. You've gotta break off that armor before you can really do some damage.

Attacks

Gravios still moves pretty slowly, just like when it was a Basarios, but man, does it hit hard now. When it gets enraged, it picks up the pace, making it a real pain to deal with – tough to hit and surprisingly fast.

Sleeping Gas: Unlike Basarios, Gravios can puff out a light blue gas that'll put you right to sleep. Watch out for that cloud!

Fire Fart: It still does this move from its Basarios days, but not as often. The main thing is that after it blasts its laser, it'll let out a fiery gas cloud. Don't try to get free hits on its legs right after the laser, or you'll get burned!

Hipcheck: This attack has a much bigger hit box than you'd expect. If you're anywhere near its head when it winds up for this, you can get hit. Your best bet is just to run away when you see it coming.

Barrel Roll: Gravios will roll onto its side, trying to crush you. Get out of the way!

Tail Waggle: It'll swing its tail side to side. Because it holds its tail so low, it can easily send you flying. Keep your distance from the tail.

Side Chomp: Gravios tends to do this more often when it's tired.

Tail Whip: This isn't super common, but Gravios can do two 180-degree tail swings. Again, the hit box is tricky, meaning you can get hit even if the tail looks like it's flying over your head. Just stay clear of the tail area.

Charge: Gravios winds up for a charge similarly to Basarios. It can adjust its direction a little bit as it starts, but it's not a homing attack, so you can usually dodge it.

Fire Laser: This is Gravios's signature move. It can shoot a laser that reaches all the way across the area – its range is absolutely ridiculous. You can only block this with Guard Up, and you'll need Evasion+1 at least to roll through it. Right after the laser, it does that fire fart, so don't expect any easy openings!

Breakable Parts

Head: Look for distinct white scars on its head to know when it's damaged.

Back: You can break its back, and the best way to do this is by mounting it and toppling it.

Belly: You can actually mount Gravios directly on its belly.

Weaknesses

Elemental: Dragon element is its main weakness.

Status: Gravios has a really low tolerance for mounting, meaning you can get mounted hits in multiple times pretty easily.
