• Immunities: Equally important, this tells you what *won't* work, saving you precious time and resources in combat.
• Tactics: Often provides hints on how the creature fights, its attack patterns, and environmental considerations.
• Loot: Details what crafting components and alchemy ingredients you can expect to harvest from its corpse.

Pro-Tip: Always read a new bestiary entry as soon as you encounter a new monster type. This allows you to prepare properly before your next encounter.

Essential Preparations

Before any significant monster hunt, especially for contracts, ensure you have the following:

• Appropriate Oils: Apply the correct oil to your silver sword. For example, Specter Oil for Wraiths, Beast Oil for Wolves, or Cursed Oil for Werewolves.
• Relevant Potions: Swallow potions like Thunderbolt (increases attack power), Swallow (health regeneration), or Tawny Owl (stamina regeneration) before combat.
• Necessary Bombs: Dimertium Bombs are excellent against mages and elementals, while Northern Wind can freeze fast-moving targets.
• Equipped Signs: Have the most effective sign for the enemy type equipped for quick access.

Common Monster Strategies

Wraiths & Nightwraiths

These ethereal foes are a staple of haunted ruins and battlefields. They are particularly dangerous due to their incorporeal nature and ability to drain vitality.

• Vulnerabilities: Specter Oil, Yrden Sign, Moon Dust Bombs.
• Strategy:
  1. Cast Yrden immediately. This sign forces wraiths into a corporeal state, making them vulnerable to your silver sword.
  2. Once trapped in Yrden's circle, unleash a flurry of fast attacks with your silver sword, which should be coated in Specter Oil.
  3. If a Wraith teleports or becomes incorporeal again, re-cast Yrden.
  4. For groups, consider using a Moon Dust Bomb to temporarily ground multiple wraiths, then focus on one at a time within Yrden.
  5. Be wary of their life-draining attacks; dodge frequently.
• Notable Locations: Often found near abandoned sites, old battlefields, and during quests like "A Towerful of Mice" on Fyke Isle.

Drowners & Sirens

Common aquatic and semi-aquatic monsters found along coastlines, rivers, and swamps. Drowners are melee threats, while Sirens can attack from the air.

• Vulnerabilities: Necrophage Oil, Igni Sign (Drowners), Aard Sign (Sirens), Grapeshot Bombs.
• Strategy (Drowners):
  1. Apply Necrophage Oil to your silver sword.
  2. Drowners often attack in groups. Use the Igni Sign to set them ablaze, causing damage over time and briefly stunning them.
  3. Focus on one Drowner at a time, using fast attacks and dodging their lunges.
  4. If overwhelmed, use a Grapeshot Bomb to deal area-of-effect damage.
• Strategy (Sirens):
  1. Apply Necrophage Oil.
  2. Sirens are flying enemies. Use the Aard Sign to knock them out of the sky, making them vulnerable to ground attacks.
  3. Once on the ground, switch to your silver sword and dispatch them quickly before they can take flight again.
  4. A well-aimed crossbow bolt can also knock them down.

Ghouls & Alghouls

These necrophages are scavengers, often found feasting on corpses. Alghouls are more dangerous variants that can sprout spikes.

• Vulnerabilities: Necrophage Oil, Igni Sign, Axii Sign (Alghouls), Grapeshot Bombs.
• Strategy (Ghouls):
  1. Coat your silver sword with Necrophage Oil.
  2. Ghouls are aggressive and often attack in packs. Use the Igni Sign to thin their numbers or stun them.
  3. Dodge their pounces and counter with fast attacks.
  4. Be mindful of their tendency to "rage" when low on health, becoming more aggressive.
• Strategy (Alghouls):
  1. Apply Necrophage Oil.
  2. Alghouls can enter a spiked form, making them immune to frontal attacks. When they do this, cast Axii to force them out of the spiked state.
  3. Alternatively, dodge behind them during their spiked phase and attack their exposed back.
  4. Like Ghouls, Igni and Grapeshot are effective for crowd control.
