Learn how to defeat the Archmages in Warcraft III: Reforged's The Siege of Dalaran mission, including unit composition and strategy.
Walkthrough
- 1Immediately upgrade your halls to a black citadel and assign three ghouls to lumber.
- 2Build six more ziggurats at the front of your base and upgrade them to spirit towers, placing them centrally among existing ziggurats.
- 3Use your heroes and abominations to defend against initial attacks, utilizing Kel'Thuzad's frost nova and keeping abominations healed.
- 4To obtain a health stone for faster health regeneration, head west of your necropolis into the forest, destroy Kirin Tor structures, and ascend the ramp on the left to find an archmage encampment. Arthas and Kel'Thuzad can defeat this archmage alone.
- 5Note that undead units take 10 damage per second inside most of Dalaran, making casters and skeleton warriors less viable.
- 6Upgrade your graveyard (all upgrades), build a sacrificial pit, and then a boneyard.
- 7Consider losing your meat wagons (which have 380 health and die quickly in the aura) to return to no upkeep, as the gold mine is limited.
- 8Obtain graveyard upgrades, web for crypt fiends, disease cloud, and frost breath for frost wyrms.
- 9The first archmage is inside the city. When attacked, use Arthas's animate dead ability on immune units to target humans near the archmage, focusing on priests, then sorceresses, and finally infantry. Use Arthas's death coil to one-shot casters and Kel'Thuzad's frost nova for infantry, pulling them out when they reach half health.
- 10After reducing the troops near the archmage, use two crypt fiends and abominations (or new ones if lost) to kill the archmage. Use Arthas's animate dead ability before engaging to raise riflemen, ordering them to focus fire on the archmage, then finish with Arthas's death coil. Animated undead still take damage from the aura, but their duration expires before they die.
- 11Once the first archmage is dead, the aura dissipates in that area, allowing you to bring in the rest of your units to clear remaining troops.
- 12Train an army consisting of 8 abominations, 9 crypt fiends, and 2 frost wyrms, aiming for around 90 food.
- 13Before crossing into high upkeep, ensure you have enough gold and pull acolytes off the gold mine.
- 14Assign abominations and heroes to group 1, and crypt fiends and frost wyrms to group 2 with Arthas. Be mindful of the high food count for these units, especially frost wyrms.
- 15Defend your base, saving gold and training units. Watch for incoming siege units like mortar teams, using abominations and frost wyrms for defense while keeping them out of danger.
- 16Once you have sufficient gold, train the rest of your units. Save and re-enter the city.
- 17If attacked on the way to the first base, reload and defend your base.
- 18Head towards the first archmage's location, take a left, and proceed to the end to find a small outpost with a gold mine and watch towers.
- 19Assign a frost wyrm to each defensive tower and send in abominations followed by crypt fiends to destroy the base. Order another frost wyrm on the watch tower in the southwest corner and the other on the barracks to freeze unit production.
- 20Send an acolyte to haunt the gold mine in the captured base and return your acolytes to gold, regardless of upkeep.
- 21Level up Arthas and Kel'Thuzad; give Arthas his final ability and Kel'Thuzad any ability you prefer.
- 22The rest of the mission is offensive. Watch for attacks from the dark blue team near your gold mine.
