Alright, so you're diving into Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, huh? Get ready for a wild ride! This game is a turn-based tactical RPG, and it's famous for those ridiculously huge numbers and the sheer amount of time you can sink into it. Lots of the mechanics will feel familiar if you've played older Disgaea games, but they've added some cool new stuff in this one.

The basic loop is pretty standard for the series. After you finish a battle map, you'll always end up back at your central hub. This is your home base where you can do all sorts of important things: buy and sell gear and items, create new characters to join your crew, power up your characters' skills, dive into the mysterious Item World, and so much more. It's your one-stop shop for everything outside of combat.

When you're ready to jump back into the main story or take on another fight, you'll want to find the NPC known as the Dimension Prinny. Chatting with them is how you'll advance the plot and start new battles.

Now, here's something new for Disgaea 5: Skits! After you clear a map and head back to your base, keep an eye out for characters with a little '!' above their heads. If you talk to them, you'll trigger a short conversation, usually involving a few other characters. It's a neat way to flesh out the story and character interactions. You'll also see a character's face pop up in the upper right corner of the screen with the word 'Event' flashing underneath it – that's your cue that a Skit is available. These usually pop up after you've beaten a story-related battle for the first time.
