Explore the inland sea and Costa Valor in Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Find crossbow targets and start quests in Puerto Valor.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You have an immediate destination, Zwaardsrust to the northeast, but a wider world at your disposal. Currently, you're only able to explore the inland sea, since the passage out to the outer ocean is locked. Besides your immediate destination, there are another three places that you can land. Since you have sidequest business there, head to Puerto Valor in the east.
  2. 2
Enemies in the inland sea at this time include Drake Slime, Wizened Wizard, Man o'War, Merman, Cyclown, Coralossus, Miasma, Seaslime, Spinchilla, Handsome Crab, Mermaniac, War Gryphon, King Squid, and Diethon. Only the first few enemies (up to Coralossus) will be encountered in the inland sea at this time.
  3. 3
Upon arriving at Costa Valor, you can find enemies such as Smacker, Merman, Coralossus, Squid Kid, Miasma, Brollyminator, Slime Knight, Healslime, Drake Slime, Bodkin Fletcher, Grim Gryphon, Gnawchild, Snooty Slime Knight, and Kriller Killer.
  4. 4
From your landing point at Costa Valor, go south through a cave. On this section of beach is a chest containing a TORTOISE SHELL blocked by a Coralossus.
  5. 5
Head back the way you came, continue past the dock, through a cave and go west and south a short distance to find a crossbow target (1/5) dangling from a tree on the rock face.
  6. 6
Return to the beach and go north through the cave filled with Miasma enemies.
  7. 7
Make your way onto the island in the east to find a chest containing a CORAL HAIRPIN.
  8. 8
Wade into the sea a short way northeast to find a crossbow target (2/5).
  9. 9
Cross the bridge leading to the northern section of the map to find another crossbow target (3/5) among the rocks.
  10. 10
You are not able to go further north through the Pang Lai Mountain Gate at this time, but you are able to go east to the Manglegrove. You will emerge on the other side of the broken footbridge that you saw when you fought the Tricky Devil. The bridge is still broken, but from this side you can spot a crossbow target (1/5) on a rock.
  11. 11
Return to the Costa Valor. Head south and then west towards the campsite. Be on the lookout for the crossbow target (4/5) dangling from the branches of a tree near to the northern edge.
  12. 12
Enter the well near the campsite. The southern path leads to a Sparkly Spot. The western one leads to a chest containing a PITCH PEARL. The northern path leads to an empty chamber.
  13. 13
Return to the surface and take the path south towards the town of Puerto Valor.
  14. 14
When you reach the southern section of Puerto Valor, hug the wall as you go west until you see the final crossbow target (5/5) dangling from the branches of a tree.
  15. 15
Return to the campsite and talk to the bodkin archer to claim your prize of 4 SEEDS OF SORCERY.
  16. 16
Enter the town of Puerto Valor. Head south across the bridge and pick up some minor loot when the area opens up.
  17. 17
Talk to the man wearing a red jacket to receive the recipe book 'All Things Nice'.
  18. 18
Head down the steps to the main square and then east to the villa of Don Rodrigo. The garden area in the north has a chest containing some PRETTY BETSY. Smash some barrels in the south east corner for some minor loot. Go in the house. Talk to Don Rodrigo's butler if you like and go upstairs. You can't get into Don Rodrigo's room, but the other one has two bookshelves that you can examine.
  19. 19
Return to the main square. The item shop has a couple of accessories that you might want to buy. Go upstairs for some minor loot. Continue south past a locked Magic Key door. The dwelling with the guard standing outside is also locked.
  20. 20
You can explore the beach for a couple of Sparkly Spots. At the east end of the beach is a bar. Talk to the man reading a book. This is Valentino and you (should) have a letter for him. He will give you a letter to take back to Akia in Gondolia.
  21. 21
Go back up the steps towards the town and take the passage leading west when you can. Look for some minor loot underneath the pergola. Make your way round and up some steps back to the main part of town.
  22. 22
Talk to the dejected looking man in the red coat to begin the quest Anything for Love. Grab some minor loot from the nearby barrels.
  23. 23
Go into the armourer's shop and head upstairs to find a bookshelf that you can examine. If you go out onto the balcony, you can break some barrels for minor loot.
  24. 24
Go into the inn and grab some minor loot from the wardrobe in the room upstairs. One of the doors here leads to a balcony with some minor loot.
  25. 25
The dwelling next door to the church has some breakable vessels containing minor loot along with a RED EYE in a wardrobe.
  26. 26
On the other side of the church are some steps that take you to a small balcony area with a chest containing a SEED OF THERAPEUSIS.
  27. 27
The western end of town has a rather plusher inn than the one in the centre. If you talk to the woman at the desk, you can start exchanging the mini medals that you've been finding for prizes. You should have 12 at this point in the game.
  28. 28
Go down towards the kitchen / dining area and talk to the chef at the counter to receive the quest Shiver me Timbers!.
  29. 29
Go upstairs and explore the rooms. The one to the south has a GREEN EYE in the wardrobe. The room to the east has a breakable vase containing a MINI MEDAL.
Tips
  • Slime Knights have an attack called Helm Splitter that both causes damage and lowers defence. They'll summon Healslimes to assist them and have a small chance of being accompanied by their rarefied form, the Snooty Slime Knight. This enemy is tougher than any boss encounter so far and has a truckload of HP along with a bunch of defensive abilities to make him even harder to kill.
  • If you didn't manage to find a Gnawchild in the Laguna di Gondolia, you can find them wandering around close to Puerto Valor without having to wait for it to rain.
  • Kriller Killers are only encountered along the beach areas at night. They are fairly tough and can hit the entire party with an icy breath attack.
  • You are not able to go further north through the Pang Lai Mountain Gate at this time.
  • You should have 12 mini medals at this point in the game to exchange for prizes at the western inn.
