Deciphering a Text

Return to Gran Soren and speak with Ser Maximilian to accept the Wyrmhunt Quest 'Deciphering a Text'.

Head to the Craftsman's Quarter and find a laborer named Josias. He will direct you to a scrivener.

Visit Mountebank at the Black Cat. He will identify the text as a cipher.

Find Maurin, who wanders Gran Soren. He typically appears later in the morning and visits Caxton's Armory, the Black Cat, the Gran Soren Cathedral, and the Pawn Guild before exiting via the northern gate. When asked about the text, he suggests looking at the figure at Hillfigure Knoll.

Exit Gran Soren via the northern gate and travel through the Deos Hills. Follow Conquest Road north-east towards Windbluff Tower.

Just after the bridge to the Deos Hills, you will be attacked by a group of Bandits led by Lowane. Continue north along the road, passing through an archway to enter Northface Forest.

Navigate Northface Forest, being wary of Direwolves and Snow Harpies. You may also encounter a Cyclops, Chimera, or Griffin.

Follow the road north-east until it turns eastward. Diverge from the road and head uphill to the north-west to find Hillfigure Knoll.

Search the figure:

The bottom of the kilt yields some berries.

The scar on the figure's chest contains a Wakestone Shard.

The tip of the spear holds the Daggers; Signs of Valor (these only appear once).

After looting, follow the spear shaft downhill to the south-west to find some rock formations.
