Walkthrough

    From the entrance of the Rootwood Depository, head north down stairs, then west down another flight of stairs into a watery area.

    Defeat the Wraiths in this area. Note the beacon on a pedestal to the east, which costs 300 Rift Currency to weaken enemies, but can be ignored.

    Head north from your entry point and find a room to the east. Jump onto a ledge to the east, break boxes, and enter a small chamber to find an ornate chest, which may contain a Maneater.

    Backtrack to the larger, bone-strewn rooms to the west. You can proceed north or south; the southern route is recommended.

    If taking the northern route: proceed west down a watery tunnel with Leapworms. At the western end, find rubble to leap upon, leading to a small, elevated tunnel to the north containing an ornate chest. Drop west from this chest to a ledge, then enter a square chamber to the south to reach the next level.

    If taking the southern route: head south from the Wraith-occupied room and go down a drier tunnel. Turn west to find a Giant Saurian Sage.

    Defeat the Giant Saurian Sage in the elevated wooden platform chamber. Loot the rounded chest behind crates on the first level of the northern-most platform, the square chest in the south-eastern corner, and another square chest on the north-western edge of the southern-most platform. Beware of snakes.

    From the Giant Saurian Sage room, go through the door to the north-west to find a watery barracks with Wraiths and Giant Saurian Sages. A Macabre Sculpture (#23) is on a shelf along the eastern wall.

    Continue north into a room with a wooden porch. Head north off the porch into a watery tunnel running west.

    This tunnel ends in a chamber with an Eliminator, Skeleton Sorcerers, and potentially an Elder Ogre. If the Elder Ogre appears, consider retreating east to fight on more favorable ground. You can also attempt to run past these foes to the west.

    If you defeat the enemies, find an ore vein and a rounded chest in the southern and eastern side-chambers. The eastern chamber connects to the northern route you could have taken earlier.

    Explore up stairs to the north, turn east, and defeat snakes. Continue east to find an ornate chest.

    Midway along this hallway, find an elevated passage to the north, obscured by vines. Climb up and continue north to a wooden bridge.

    Drop west from the bridge onto the watery ground below to find a rounded chest. Under the bridge to the north, find coin pouches worth 23,500 G.

    Climb back onto the bridge and follow it north, into a tunnel, then east, then north again to find an ornate chest.

    Backtrack to the room with the Eliminator and head west through doors to the next level, entering The Forgotten Hall.

    In The Forgotten Hall, you will see a Lich to the north, which may summon Undead Warriors.

    Further north, as you approach the statue room, you will encounter Death for a third time. Engage or evade Death.

Monster Info: Wraith

Wraiths are similar to Phantasms but red. They are immune to physical damage and perform an incorporeal charge attack. They can also possess nearby characters, dealing damage over time. They deal more damage and have more health than Phantasms.

Monster Info: Giant Saurian Sage

Giant Saurian Sages are the strongest type of Saurian, incredibly aggressive physically with high health and robust Magick Defense. They are valuable for their Moonshimmer Pelts, used in upgrades. Chopping off their tail significantly weakens them. They are also affected by grappling.

  • The beacons that weaken enemies cost 300 Rift Currency and can be ignored if you wish to conserve your currency.
  • The northern route in the Rootwood Depository is quicker but more difficult than the southern route.
  • If an Elder Ogre appears in the chamber with the Eliminator and Skeleton Sorcerers, it is advisable to retreat east to fight on more favorable ground, or attempt to run past the enemies to the west.
  • The Ring of Desiccation may be helpful when fighting in the cramped chamber with the Eliminator and Skeleton Sorcerers.
  • Chopping off a Giant Saurian Sage's tail significantly weakens it.
