Complete Fallout 2 Redding quests: help the Sheriff, deal with Widow Rooney's rent ($120), break up fights, and find a killer.
Walkthrough
- 1Enter Redding and go to the Sheriff's office on the left. Offer to help him.
- 2The Sheriff will ask you to either evict Widow Rooney or pay her rent. Go southwest to her house, identifiable by a brahmin pasture.
- 3Talk to Widow Rooney and agree to pay her rent for $120. You will receive experience.
- 4Return to the Sheriff and accept another quest to break up a fight at the Malamute Saloon, located northwest of the Sheriff's office.
- 5At the saloon, speak to the fighting woman and tell her to stop the fight, then state you are looking for target practice. Take her to jail. You can also take the miners to jail, or just the Kokoweef miner if you are siding with the Morningstar mine.
- 6After breaking up the fight, speak to the Sheriff to receive money, experience, and a new quest.
- 7The Sheriff will then ask you to find the hooker's killer. Before proceeding, go to the west side of Redding to kill rats for experience. Search desks and shelves for a Scout Handbook, stimpacks, a rope, and flares. A stick of dynamite can be found in a corpse.
- 8Head to the northern area of Redding (between Ascorti's Ace and the Malamute Saloon). Go to the entrance left of the Morningstar Mine.
- 9Talk to the man wearing a cap with a fat belly. He will confess to cutting up the hooker. Ask about the affair and the mistake; he will state she made fun of his mother. Tell him he overreacted but you are taking him to jail, and that the jury will consider everything. He will agree to come peacefully. Take him to jail.
- 10The Sheriff will give you a new quest: kill Frog Morton.
- 11Return to the area where you killed the rats. Frog and his gang will be there, and the rats will not be present. Use a Combat Shotgun, .44 Magnum, or the Super Sledgehammer from Navarro to defeat them. Frog has an H&K G11 Caseless Sub-Machine gun, and his guards have shotguns. Power Armor is recommended. Collect weapons, especially the G11. Be aware that Frog's gang has rigged the mine area, and his three brothers may appear in random encounters. Return to the Sheriff for payment.
- 12Go to Ascorti's Ace and speak with Mayor Ascorti. Inquire about deeds, specifically the Wanamingo Mine deed (where Frog and the rats were). He will mention alien creatures in the mine.
- 13Buy the deed from Mayor Ascorti for $1500. Save your game.
- 14Return to where Frog was and descend the mine elevator.
- 15In the mine, you will encounter a white wanamingo with 220 hit points, and other wanamingos with 120 or 160 hit points. Other enemies include eleven rats in the second area and two wanamingos in the final area. Use targeted shots with weapons like the .44 aimed at the eyes, the Combat Shotgun, the Super Sledgehammer, or the caseless gun. Destroy the eggs at the entrance to prevent reproduction.
- 16Find an excavator chip in a digger machine on the first level.
- 17On the second level, head southeast to a new area. Continue south and climb a ladder to reach the downtown part of Redding.
- 18Sell the deed to Mayor Ascorti for $1500 profit.
- 19Go to the Kokoweef mine office (to the right of Morningstar, north of the other Kokoweef office). Talk to Marge LeBarge and sell her the excavator chip. Save your game.
Tips
- You can choose to support Dan McGrew or Marge LeBarge; rewards and experience are the same regardless of your choice. Marge LeBarge supports the NCR, while McGrew supports gangsters at New Reno.
- The H&K G11 is a powerful sub-machine gun with a fifty-round 4.7mm caseless magazine. It has better penetration than the .44 revolver and its burst shot is deadly. The G11E variant has slightly longer range and damage.
- Power Armor is highly recommended for the fight against Frog Morton and his gang.
- There are two excavator chips in the mine, but you can only sell one.
- Targeted shots are very effective against wanamingos, especially aiming for the eyes with a .44.
- The caseless gun is as good as the .44, but do not use its burst fire.
- Destroying wanamingo eggs prevents them from reproducing.
