Learn Fallout 2 combat tactics, including how to cripple foes by aiming at legs, arms, or eyes for strategic advantages.
Walkthrough
- 1Targeting Body Parts: You can cripple foes at five points by scoring a critical hit on their legs, arms, or eyes. Crippling legs hinders enemy movement, crippling arms prevents the use of two-handed weapons (or forces unarmed attacks if both are crippled), and crippling eyes reduces enemy Perception (a measure of awareness and accuracy).
- Eye Criticals: Aiming for the eyes typically offers a high critical chance and deals substantial damage.
- 2Groin Shots: On male non-player characters (NPCs), hitting them in the groin can cause them to fall down.
- 3Weapon Selection: Use the appropriate weapon for the target. For lightly armored targets, consider unarmed combat or melee weapons that do not consume ammunition. For standard targets like most humans and super mutants, use regular shots, and employ targeted or burst shots when effective. For heavily armored humans and creatures, utilize powerful weapons with good penetration, such as the PPK12/M72, G11(e), Vindicator, Plasma Rifles, and the YK42B.
- 4Ammunition Choice: Select the right ammunition. While AP (Armor-Piercing) ammo may seem superior against armored targets, the game engine often applies significant damage penalties. AP ammo penetrates better than JHP (Jacketed Hollow Point) ammo, but JHP is generally the best type. FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) is also a viable option. The exceptions appear to be AP and Explosive rockets, which seem to deal similar damage.
Tips
- Aiming for the eyes offers a high critical chance and deals significant damage.
- On male NPCs, a groin shot can make them fall down.
- Always match your weapon and ammo to the enemy's armor and type.
- JHP ammo is generally the best choice, despite AP ammo's better penetration.
