Learn how to conquer Humankind on the highest difficulty. This guide covers AI bonuses, early game strategy, and how to leverage cultures and trade to achieve victory.

Hey there! So you're looking to tackle Humankind on its toughest setting, huh? It's a real challenge, but totally doable with the right approach. This guide is all about helping you get there, drawing from my own experiences beating the game on Humankind difficulty.

Just a heads-up, the game's still pretty new as I'm writing this, so some of this might change with updates. But the core ideas should stick around!

Humankind Difficulty and General Strategy

First off, let's talk about what makes this difficulty so brutal. The AI gets some pretty sweet bonuses:

  • +3 Food per Farmer in all Cities
  • +3 Industry per Worker in all Cities
  • +3 Money per Trader in all Cities
  • +3 Science per Researcher in all Cities
  • +60 Stability on all Cities
  • +2 Combat Strength on all Units

Now, these bonuses might seem scary, especially the FIMS (Food, Industry, Money, Science) ones. The key thing to remember is that they're flat bonuses. Early in the game, when your cities are small, these bonuses are a huge deal. For example, an early city with 9 population and 3 workers getting +9 Industry might require you to build 3+ Industry Districts just to keep up! But later on, when AI cities have 60 population and 15 workers, that +45 Industry bonus is much easier to manage with just one or two specialized districts.

The +2 Combat Strength bonus is no joke, either. It's like giving every AI unit a special, unique unit from the start. Trying to fight them head-on in the early eras (Neolithic and Ancient) is basically a losing battle. You'll want to avoid combat until at least the Classical era, and usually, the Medieval era is a safer bet.

As for the stability bonus, it's a bit harder to quantify, but it definitely makes things tougher. The best way to counter this is by focusing on trading for luxury resources.

So, with all that in mind, here's the general game plan:

  1. Avoid Early Wars: Seriously, don't pick fights until at least the Classical era, and often it's better to wait until the Medieval era.
  2. Trade for Luxuries: Get those trade routes going to snag luxury resources. They're your best friend for keeping stability up.
  3. Go Agrarian/Builder Early: Pick cultures that focus on food and production early on. This helps you scale up for the late game when the AI's flat bonuses become less impactful. Building wide (lots of cities) is usually the way to go here, rather than building tall (just a few big cities).
  4. Focus on Stars/Fame: The ultimate goal is to rack up as many Stars (Fame) as possible. The player who has the most Fame at the end of the game wins!
