Siege Units Guide

Learn how to effectively use and counter siege units in Humankind. This guide covers unit stats, deployment strategies, and tactical advantages for conquering your enemies.

This guide is intended to provide general advice on how to beat Humankind on its highest difficulty. The author has experience with the Civilization series and the 4X genre, and believes Humankind has the potential to surpass it. The game is still in its early stages and may be subject to changes that could impact the information presented here.

Humankind Difficulty and General Strategy

On the highest difficulty, AI players receive the following bonuses:

  • +3 Food per Farmer on all Cities
  • +3 Industry per Worker on all Cities
  • +3 Money per Trader on all Cities
  • +3 Science per Researcher on all Cities
  • +60 Stability on all Cities
  • +2 Strength Combat Strength on all Units

The FIMS bonuses are flat and do not scale well with population, making the player at a disadvantage early on. The combat strength bonus is significant and makes early-game combat difficult. The stability bonus is harder to quantify but can be offset by trading for luxury resources.

The general strategy is:

  1. Avoid early war (until at least the Classical era, usually Medieval).
  2. Establish trade for luxury resources.
  3. Choose Agrarian and Builder cultures early on and focus on expanding widely to scale into the late game when AI FIMS bonuses become less impactful.
  4. Focus on acquiring stars/fame, as winning the game requires the most fame. Avoid transcending cultures too early, as this can lead to missing out on fame opportunities.
  5. Trigger the end game condition, typically the science ending (all technologies researched) or by eliminating/vassalizing all other cultures.

Map Settings for Optimal Strategy

Given the strategy to compensate for AI bonuses, the following map settings are recommended:

  • World size: Huge - Allows for more expansion and easier spawning of minor cultures.
  • World shape: Large Pangea - Facilitates scouting and finding trading partners.
  • Land Percentage: 70-80% - Provides enough land for expansion while maintaining sufficient ocean for naval trade routes.
  • Climate: New World - Ensures a diverse starting environment.
