Competitive Multiplayer Tactics

Learn essential Humankind multiplayer tactics to overcome AI bonuses and secure victory. This guide covers early game avoidance, trade strategies, expansion, and fame acquisition for the highest difficulty.

This guide is intended to help players overcome the challenges of playing Humankind on its highest difficulty setting. It focuses on strategic approaches to counter the AI's inherent advantages and achieve victory.

AI Bonuses on Humankind Difficulty:

  • +3 Food per Farmer
  • +3 Industry per Worker
  • +3 Money per Trader
  • +3 Science per Researcher
  • +60 Stability
  • +2 Combat Strength on all Units

These bonuses, particularly the flat FIMS bonuses, are more impactful early in the game and scale less favorably for the AI as the game progresses. The combat strength bonus is significant and necessitates avoiding early warfare.

General Strategy:

  1. Avoid early game warfare (until at least the Classical era, preferably Medieval).
  2. Prioritize establishing trade for luxury resources to offset AI bonuses.
  3. Select Agrarian and Builder cultures early on to facilitate expansion and scaling into the late game. Building wide is generally more effective than building tall.
  4. Focus on accumulating Fame by achieving objectives across eras. Avoid prematurely transcending cultures, as this can lead to missing out on Fame opportunities.
  5. Trigger the end game condition, typically the science ending (researching all technologies) or, if conquest is advanced, eliminating or vassalizing all other cultures.

Optimal Map Settings:

  • World Size: Huge (allows for more expansion and diverse interactions).
  • World Shape: Large Pangea (facilitates scouting and trade).
  • Land Percentage: 70-80% (balances land for expansion with sufficient water for trade routes).
  • Climate: New World (ensures a balanced start).
