It's super important, obviously, but on the highest difficulty, the AI gets some pretty sweet bonuses that can make you feel like you're falling behind early on. Don't sweat it, though! We'll go over how to counter that and make sure your Science game is strong.

First off, you need to know what the AI is getting. On the hardest difficulty, they get a flat bonus to Food, Industry, Money, and Science for every worker they have. They also get a big Stability boost and +2 Combat Strength on all their units. The kicker here is that while these bonuses seem huge early on, they actually don't scale as well as you might think. That +9 industry from a few early workers is way more impactful than the same bonus on a massive late-game city. The combat bonus, though? That's no joke, especially early on.
