Understand Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Perception, Charm, and Temperament in the outer worlds. Learn their effects on combat, dialogue, and more.

This guide explains the various attributes in the outer worlds and their effects on your character's abilities and interactions within the game world.

Strength influences your melee damage and carrying capacity. At its highest (Very High grade), it boosts melee damage by +30% and allows you to carry 140kg of gear. At its lowest (Below Average grade), you suffer a 10% penalty to melee damage, have a carrying capacity of 60kg, and moving during TTD consumes twice as much of your TTD meter. The melee damage boost is vital for melee builds, but the carrying capacity is less important as various perks can boost it.

  • Below Average: -10% Melee Damage, 60kg Carrying Capacity, -100% Tactical Time Dilation Move Time
  • Average: +0% Melee Damage, 80kg Carrying Capacity
  • Good: +10% Melee Damage, 100kg Carrying Capacity
  • High: +20% Melee Damage, 120kg Carrying Capacity
  • Very High: +30% Melee Damage, 140kg Carrying Capacity

Dexterity affects melee attack speed and ranged weapon reload speed. At its lowest (Below Average grade), it imposes a 10% penalty to melee attack speed, a 25% penalty to reload speed, and weapons lose durability 30% faster. At its best (Very High grade), Dexterity grants a +30% bonus to melee attack speed and a +30% bonus to reload speed. For ranged characters, the reload speed difference may not be significant. On Supernova difficulty, the extra durability loss is more noticeable.

  • Below Average: -10% Melee Weapon Attack Speed, -25% Ranged Weapon Reload Speed, -30% Weapon Durability
  • Average: +0% Melee Weapon Attack Speed, +0% Ranged Weapon Reload Speed
  • Good: +10% Melee Weapon Attack Speed, +10% Ranged Weapon Reload Speed
  • High: +20% Melee Weapon Attack Speed, +20% Ranged Weapon Reload Speed
  • Very High: +30% Melee Weapon Attack Speed, +30% Ranged Weapon Reload Speed

Intelligence affects Critical Hit bonus damage. Boosting critical hit damage is fundamental to damage output, especially as weapon skills increase critical hit chance. This damage boost applies to both melee and ranged weapons, making Intelligence a less disposable stat than Strength and Dexterity. It is also checked in conversation.

  • Below Average: -20% Critical Damage
  • Average: +0% Critical Damage
  • Good: +10% Critical Damage
  • High: +20% Critical Damage
  • Very High: +35% Critical Damage

Perception affects Headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill) and Weakspot damage bonuses. While potentially less ubiquitous than critical hit damage, it constitutes significant damage potential for many builds, especially sniper/stealth builds. Perception is also checked in conversation, often helping you identify ulterior motives.

  • Below Average: -20% Extra Headshot/Weakspot Damage
  • Average: +0% Extra Headshot/Weakspot Damage
  • Good: +10% Extra Headshot/Weakspot Damage
  • High: +20% Extra Headshot/Weakspot Damage
  • Very High: +35% Extra Headshot/Weakspot Damage

Charm influences the rate at which you gain positive and negative faction reputation, making it easier to reach “Revered” status. It also reduces the cooldown of companion abilities, indirectly contributing to damage output if your Inspiration skill is high enough. Charm is also checked in dialogue.

  • Below Average: -20% Companion Ability Refresh, -35% Positive Faction Reputation Reactions, +15% Negative Faction Reputation Reactions
  • Average: +0% Companion Ability Refresh, +0% Positive Faction Reputation Reactions, +0% Negative Faction Reputation Reactions
  • Good: +10% Companion Ability Refresh, +10% Positive Faction Reputation Reactions, -10% Negative Faction Reputation Reactions
  • High: +25% Companion Ability Refresh, +20% Positive Faction Reputation Reactions, -20% Negative Faction Reputation Reactions
  • Very High: +40% Companion Ability Refresh, +35% Positive Faction Reputation Reactions, -35% Negative Faction Reputation Reactions

Temperament governs your health regeneration. The healing amount scales with your total health. With an Average grade, health regenerates fully in about 250 seconds. Good grade takes about 142 seconds, High takes 100 seconds, and Very High takes approximately 66 seconds. Having a Below Average Temperament means losing all passive health regeneration.

  • Below Average: 0 Health Regeneration per Second
  • Average: 2 Health Regeneration per Second
  • Good: 3.5 Health Regeneration per Second
  • High: 5 Health Regeneration per Second
  • Very High: 7.5 Health Regeneration per Second
