Find all the Science Weapons in The Outer Worlds with this guide. Learn the locations and strategies for obtaining the Shrink Ray, Prismatic Hammer, Mandibular Rearranger, Gloop Gun, and more.

This guide details the locations and acquisition methods for the Science Weapons in The Outer Worlds. These unique weapons offer powerful and often unusual effects, making them valuable additions to any player's arsenal.

Shrink Ray

Head to Phineas’ Lab and search a table to the west of the microphone used to communicate with Phineas. The Shrink Ray is located out in the open on this table.

Prismatic Hammer

This weapon can be found on Groundbreaker shortly after acquiring the Shrink Ray. Pass the security checkpoint manned by Cpl. Leonard Wheeler. For background, you can find a corpse near the waste chute in the waste disposal area (north of Belle’s Shells) with "Crumpled Instructions," but this is not required to find the weapon.

From Cpl. Leonard Wheeler, head north through a doorway into the barracks where the Stevedores live. Use crates to climb atop the beds and sneak west to find an opening to a hidden hangar. Sneak into the hangar and prepare for a fight against several outlaws and a Scrap Mechanical. Use the crates for cover and prioritize ranged combat. Plasma ammunition is effective against the outlaws, while shock damage is best for the Scrap Mechanical. Loot the Outlaw Squad Leader for a Repair Hangar Keycard, which opens a locked door [Lockpick 60] to the north.

Beyond this door, the Prismatic Hammer Science Weapon is found in a small safe. As a Science Weapon, its power scales with your Science skill. It cycles through elemental damage types: plasma, shock, and corrosive (with n-ray at Science 80+). If your Science skill is below 60, the third swing will be non-elemental.

To progress this quest further, purchase the Hephaestus Mining - Archive Cartridge from Gladys and read it on your computer aboard the Unreliable.

Mandibular Rearranger

While the Battered Mardet Datapad from Gladys is optional, the Hephaestus Mining - Archive Cartridge she sells updates this quest and directs you to Scylla. Be aware that enemies on Scylla are typically levels 12-20; it may be advisable to return when you are a similar level.

On Scylla, travel south to find an elevator. Ride it down and continue south to a road, which leads northeast to buildings on a hill—the remains of an outpost. Engage any outlaws encountered, but be cautious of the stronger automechanicals near the buildings on the hill.

Once clear, head uphill northeast and enter the second building on the right (southeast). Search a safe inside for the Mandible Rearranger. This one-handed melee weapon can freeze enemies and alter their head size upon impact, though the cosmetic effect is its primary function.

The nearby terminal offers information about Scylla's abandonment but no further weapon locations.

To find the next two weapons, travel to Fallbrook on Monarch. You can reach Fallbrook by running from Cascadia Landing Pad or by acquiring a Stellar Bay Navkey (purchase from Gladys or complete the quest Long Distance for the Board).

Visit the SubLight Dry Goods & Sundry shop and speak with Duncan Elley. He sells a SubLight Datapad and a Damaged UDL Datapad, both of which update this quest. One weapon is on Monarch, accessible during the faction quest Errors Unseen. Another requires working with Lilya Hagen and is accessible during the quest Space-Crime Continuum.

Gloop Gun

From Fallbrook, head north to the Blown Bridge. Go uphill west-northwest from the bridge to reach a pond (containing a locked bin [Lockpick 95]). Continue north-northwest, defeat any mantids, and proceed northwest to the UDL Lab, a secret corporate installation.

There are multiple approaches to the UDL Lab. You can engage all the marauders, utilizing the tall grass for sniping, especially targeting those on high ground. Alternatively, you can attempt to sneak past them, focusing on key targets with a sniper rifle, though many enemies are located indoors.
