The Merl, also known as the ground bases missile launcher, is a unit in Total Annihilation that can be highly useful when deployed sparingly. However, it suffers from a slow firing rate, and its rockets may miss their intended targets, sometimes hitting friendly units, particularly when engaging mobile enemies. This inaccuracy is a primary reason why the Merl is not utilized extensively by many commanders.

Some players prefer to deploy Luger units behind their troops instead of Merls for ground defense.

For effective air defense, commanders should consider using Jethros or Samsons.
