Learn how to effectively use, counter, and launch the Translocator in Unreal Tournament. Master telefragging, travel, and defensive tactics.

The Translocator (T/L) is a utility item in Unreal Tournament that, despite not being a weapon, can instantly kill any enemy. Its primary use is for rapid travel, allowing players to teleport to a deployed module. It can also be used offensively to 'telefrag' opponents by teleporting directly into them or by using the module as a proximity mine.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Movement: Aim the crosshairs at the desired destination and primary fire the module. Alt-fire to teleport to the module's location. Primary fire again recalls the module. The player's facing direction does not change upon teleporting.
  2. 2
Offensive Telefragging: Fire the module into an enemy and alt-fire upon impact. Alternatively, place the module on the ground like a landmine and alt-fire when an enemy walks over it (less effective online).
  3. 3
Disabling Enemy T/Ls: Shoot enemy Translocator modules on the ground until their light goes out. The enemy will die if they attempt to activate a disabled T/L. T/Ls can also be destroyed by shooting them or launching them into hazards.
  4. 4
Lift Prevention: Place a T/L module underneath a falling lift to make it rise again. This is useful for defending objectives.
  5. 5
Fall Damage: Activating a Translocator does not negate fall damage. To avoid fall damage from heights, drop the T/L into water before teleporting. Continuously throwing and activating a T/L in mid-air does not prevent stacked fall damage.
  6. 6
Countering the Translocator: Avoid getting hit by the offensive T/L module. Keep moving and use a weapon to finish the opponent. Enemy T/Ls cannot be disabled by shooting them mid-throw; they must land and activate first.
  7. 7
GOTY Edition Bot Behavior: In the GOTY edition, bots are more adept at using and countering the T/L. They can shoot T/Ls mid-air, telefrag players upon reappearance, and destroy dropped T/Ls.
  8. 8
T/L Launching: The Translocator can be launched long distances by shooting its center with specific weapons (shock beam, ripper shot, rockets) or by using Redeemer missiles or secondary slime shots behind it. The shock-combo can also be used for long-distance launches when fired at a 90-degree angle behind the module. Splash damage from slime can also launch the T/L unpredictably.
Tips
  • The Translocator is particularly effective in game modes like Domination (DOM) for both movement and combat.
  • T/L launching is useful on large, open maps for quick traversal.
  • Be aware that bots in GOTY can be very challenging with their T/L usage.
  • Accurate placement and timing are crucial for successful telefragging and launching.
