The Championship Ladder guides you through each compulsory map, culminating in a 1v1 match with Xan Kriegor.

To customize your ladder experience, copy original maps to a backup folder, add new maps to the default Maps folder, and rename them to correspond with the ladder maps they will replace. This exploit works in all modes except Assault, where objective messages may be messed up.

Recommended maps to replace include Malevolence, Koos Galleon, Shrapnel, and Peak (DM); Dreary, Lava Giant, November, and Hydro Bases (CTF); and Zeto (Challenge).

Custom maps can be downloaded and used to replace existing ones.

When using custom maps, the number of bots will not change. Use console commands like kick [BOT NAME], killall bot, and addbots [NUMBER] to adjust bot numbers.

Play the DM Tutorial map to learn the basics of Death Match.

To win a DM round, be the first to score a given number of kills. Each kill earns one point, and self-inflicted deaths lose a point.

There is no time limit in DM. Weapons disappear when picked up and respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) approximately thirty seconds later.

The best way to win DM maps is to secure and maintain your favorite weapons and control powerups, especially shield belts and armor.

Use the Show Scores screen (F1 by default) to access a clock at the bottom, which can function as an item timer.

Exploit bots by controlling valuable powerups like armors and shield belts. Bots will only go for spawned items, allowing you to set traps, particularly in maps like DM-Turbine and DM-Tempest.

Learn each map intimately, knowing the locations of all weapons, powerups, and hazards (such as slime pools and booby traps).
