Master Unreal Tournament Part 64 with stealth tactics, effective flag escapes via pipes, and telefragging bots. Learn Hydro Bases strategy.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
From the second last set of stairs, face the two boxes across the room. Jump forwards and throw your T/L at the side of the right box. This positions you hidden from the camper once you teleport.
  2. 2
From this hidden position, you can either throw your T/L onto the flag and attempt a grab and escape, or throw the T/L down the hall to grab the keg and armour if they are present and still undetected.
  3. 3
Alternatively, you can throw your T/L from the first cluster of boxes to the flag platform while remaining hidden from the bot, preventing it from shooting you until you touch the flag.
  4. 4
If struggling with the lone defender, practice poking around the corner and throwing your T/L at the top of the highest box to instantly telefrag the bot.
  5. 5
Once you have the flag, the best escape route is via the big pipe in the roof.
  6. 6
If you have enough health, perform a hammer-jump to reach the roof of the submarine once you land, which is the best bet for avoiding the headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill) crew.
  7. 7
The blue bots cannot reach the ledge surrounding the ceiling of the red flag room. Drop the blue flag there for security while your team-mates return the red flag.

Defense:

  • Red snipers can be successful by T/Ling up to rafters above the red pool to defend the flag.
  • Sit beside the minigun nest, taking the belt when available, as blue attackers must pass you. Use the shock rifle and ammo to make this difficult. Stay out of sight of the blue sniper in the nest across the water.
  • Defending in the NZ (North Zone) is tricky due to its popularity and lack of bottlenecks. If you can get the UDamage and a sniper rifle with ample ammo onto a ceiling beam, you can pick off blues from above.
  • Use the ceiling pipe as a shortcut to catch up on escaped enemy Flag Carriers (FC's). A defending team-mate is usually near the minigun nest at the entrance to your base.
  • Attacking is recommended, with most bots set to defend or hold position in the NZ. Your team-mates take a long time to capture, while you have better methods. An empty enemy base allows for easier sneaking.

Miscellaneous:

  • You can side-dodge up the sides of the sub to reach the top by finding the right spots at the end nearest the blue ceiling pipe. This allows a getaway over the sub without using your hammer or T/L, useful when carrying the flag with low health.
  • The only ways out of the submarine pen water without using the T/L or hammer are at the sniper nest end of the pool.
  • The other pipe in the red base holds one of only two Rocket Launchers (R/Ls) on the level.
  • There is a lot of sniper ammo under the long staircase in the blue base.
  • The blue belt is on one of the ledges behind the nearby boxes.
  • A bug exists where red bots run up blue stairs, grab the flag, and escape through the floor pipe. Without armour, they often die or are eliminated by blue bots near that area. This causes your team to constantly grab the blue flag but fail to return it, reinforcing the strategy of keeping bots on defense and NZ control.

Hydro Bases (CTF-HYDRO16)

This enormous hydroelectric plant used to power colonies on Vesuvius 9 until a mysterious virus killed everyone. Liandri officials have declared the plant safe for combat.

This map can be fun online with a mix of skill levels, but against high-level bots, it is not enjoyable. 6v6 is too many, and your team-mates have little chance of capturing the flag at Masterful difficulty or higher. A 3-0 map win can last over an hour, requiring you to get all three captures even without the top score.

Tips
  • If you miss shots on a bot that spawned high, it may have picked up the keg and armour, explaining why your shots didn't kill it. They will be equipped with a ripper, rockets, and sniper.
  • It used to be possible to abuse a wall bug to drop down without losing health, but this appears to be gone in the GOTY Edition or with HD texture packs.
  • The blue bots cannot reach the ledge surrounding the ceiling of the red flag room. Drop the blue flag up there for some security while your team-mates return the red flag.
  • When defending, better to sit just beside the minigun nest, taking the belt when it becomes available.
  • Don't forget your T/L for defense. Practise poking around the corner and throwing your translocator at the top of the highest box to telefrag the bot instantly.
  • You can catch up on any escaped enemy FC's by using that ceiling pipe as a shortcut.
  • I would recommend attacking in this level, and leaving the majority of your bots to defend, or better yet tell them to hold position in the NZ. Your team-mates will take AGES to get just one cap, whereas you have better methods of grabbing the flag. You also want the enemy base to be relatively empty while you sneak in there, hence putting your own bots on defense.
  • This will let you get over the sub without using your hammer or T/L, which will be useful if you're carrying the flag and trying to make a getaway with not much health.
  • The other pipe in the red base holds one of only two R/Ls in the level.
  • There is a lot of sniper ammo under the long staircase in the blue base.
  • The blue belt is on one of the ledges behind the nearby boxes.
  • If you're wondering why your team is constantly grabbing the blue flag but failing to bring it home, this is why; and it argues further for keeping your bots on defense and NZ control.
