Master Unreal Tournament Assault mode with strategies for attacking, defending, hammer-jumps, and tactical suicide. Learn objective order and resource sharing.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Attack Strategy: Attack the base as quickly as possible to minimize defense time in the second round. Learn the map layout and objective paths for speed. Use hammer-jumps to reach areas your team-mates cannot and surprise defenders. Tactical suicide can exploit new spawn-points (generated after objectives are completed) to advance faster, especially useful on maps like Overlord in single-player. The order of objectives is not always critical; you can often skip some or head straight for the final objective.
  2. 2
Resource Management (Attack & Defense): Share limited weapons, ammo, and armor (especially shield-belts) with your team. Note the time when armor is taken and subtract 54 seconds to predict when the next armor will appear.
  3. 3
Defense Strategy: Defending is often easier than attacking, especially against AI (bots) who follow preset paths. Identify and control bottlenecks. On maps like Overlord, a linear defense can be effective for the full ten minutes. Understand enemy attack patterns; they will always attack the next objective in sequence without skipping. Tactical suicide can be more important on defense to quickly respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) and intercept attackers.
  4. 4
Bot Commands: Telling your bots to defend is generally best, as their AI is improved. Trust them to hold positions at objectives, as spawn-points change and fixed hold positions can become ineffective. You can force team-mates to suicide in levels with hazards like lava (e.g., High Speed).
  5. 5
Forward Defense: Defend far forward from the objective rather than camping. This allows multiple attempts to eliminate the same attacker. On maps like High Speed, meeting an attacker near the back of the train provides more opportunities.
  6. 6
Grouping for Attack: When attacking, if enemies are grouped in a lower area (e.g., Boiler Room on Overlord), group your team-mates for a mass attack command. They may die, but they can serve as a distraction for you to hammer-jump to the objective.
Tips
  • Hammer-jumps are critical in Assault (AS), especially online.
  • Tactical suicide can save time and help you advance ahead of the opposition.
  • You can often skip non-essential objectives or head straight for the final objective.
  • Sharing armor, particularly shield-belts, is crucial for success.
  • Note the timer for armor spawns (subtract 54 seconds from pickup time).
  • Bots follow predictable paths, making defense easier against AI.
  • Concentrate on your own positioning during defense, trusting bots to hold objectives.
  • Grouping for a mass attack can create a distraction for a solo objective rush.
  • Consider your command menu and order binds to breach difficult objectives.
  • Enemies often spawn from small areas, allowing for early interception if known.
