Master DM-ArcaneTemple in Unreal Tournament with this guide. Learn about the Nali, Skaarj, map control, power-ups, and effective strategies for the GOTY ladder.
Walkthrough
- 1Map Overview: DM-ArcaneTemple is a GOTY ladder map known for its difficulty spike, especially at higher levels. The Nali constructed it to worship their Gods in secrecy, but the Skaarj eventually found and slaughtered them.
- 2Opponent Characteristics: Unlike 'human' bots, Skaarj bots have increased movement capabilities and are more aggressive.
- 3Map Details: Frag Limit: 25, Opponents: 5, Best Weapon: Shock Rifle.
- 4Power-ups / Armour:
- Thigh Pads: Outside, next to the vials.
- 5Body Armour: On one of the curved ledges at the end of the shield-belt bridge.
- 6Shield-belt: On the high, central bridge.
- 7UDamage: At the bottom of the lowest ramp at the back of the map, directly above the water teleporter.
- 8Controlling the Map:
- Spawn Point Strategy: The most common spawn point is outdoors. Immediately check behind you for thigh pads and vials for early protection.
- 9Weapon Priority: The rocket launcher is highly contested; securing it and ammo is beneficial but not the top priority. The Shock Rifle is crucial.
- 10Shock Rifle Dominance: Find the Shock Rifle and stay near it, ideally on the same level. If you spawn near the Shield-belt, you can quickly move to the Shock Rifle to establish a camping spot.
- 11Movement and Escape: You can run up curved staircases to the belt's level or use hammer-jumps from the Shock Rifle platform to reach the belt quickly. This hammer-jump is vital for snatching the belt from bots, as you can see its status from the Shock Rifle platform.
- 12Camping Strategy: Camp back from the Shock Rifle platform, looking down into the entrance hallway. Use shock-combos, rockets, and slime to attack bots coming through the small doorway. This area is where most bots spawn and fight.
- 13Ammo and Armour Access: The Shock Rifle and its ammo are to your right. You can run up to the belt bridge to find body armour and two more shock ammo packs before returning to the Shock Rifle area by dodging off the bridge.
- 14Central Chamber Observation: If the entrance hallway is quiet, observe the central chamber from the edge of the Shock Rifle platform.
- 15Bot Limitations: Bots can reach the Shock Rifle level via ramps but are restricted in other areas. They cannot easily drop into the water from the high vials tunnel to collect the keg, but you can.
- 16Miscellaneous Map Mechanics:
- Pressure Chamber: Buttons can be shot or touched to activate. They temporarily deactivate each other. Killing a bot in the chamber grants a kill, noted in the scout box but not the HUD. You can die in the chamber even when standing on the door. God mode does not protect against chamber deaths. Using the translocator (if enabled outside campaign) can allow escape. If caught, picking up the belt prevents bots from getting it for a minute, even if you die. Suiciding before death in the chamber prevents an opponent from gaining a point. Steam emits from the outlet pipe when the chamber is activated.
- 17Keg: Located out of the way, accessible via hammer-jump into entrance pools. Alternatively, 13 vials provide 65 health, reducing the keg's importance. The keg's availability can be checked through a window by the minigun or from underneath the long central corridor.
- 18Sniper Rifle: Reachable by hammer-jumping off a moving lift.
- 19Flak Cannon and Thigh Pads: Bots can only reach these via the lift at the Shock Rifle end of the hallway, running along a narrow beam, and hammer-jumping up. Players have more freedom to access these items.
- 20Water Access: Bots cannot drop into the water from the high vials tunnel to collect the keg, but players can.
Tips
- Always keep a Shock Rifle on you; it's your best friend on this map.
- Utilize hammer-jumps for quick access to power-ups and strategic positioning.
- The Shock Rifle platform is a prime camping spot for controlling the entrance hallway.
- Be aware of the Skaarj bots' aggressive movement and tactics.
- Use the teleporter in the corner for escape options, as bots rarely use it.
