Conquer Unreal Tournament's Part 61! Get expert tips and strategies for CTF-Dreary and CTF-Command maps, from power-up locations to attack and defense tactics.

Alright, let's dive into Part 61 of our Unreal Tournament journey. We've got two maps here: CTF-Dreary and CTF-Command. Dreary's got a seriously moody vibe with that constant rain and cramped spaces, which I used to love, but honestly, the map itself isn't the best. Command, on the other hand, is a slick Liandri Corporation nuclear processing station – think high-tech industrial with twisting corridors, perfect for fast-paced CTF matches.

CTF-Dreary

This map is built for 5v5 team battles. For power-ups, you'll find Thigh Pads in the red base's top room, Body Armour (2) in the neutral zone's floor, a Shield-belt in the neutral zone's top room, and UDamage in the blue base's top room.

Attack Strategy for Dreary

Getting to the enemy flag room isn't too tough since bots struggle with what they can't see, and there's plenty of cover. The real challenge is the flag rooms themselves – they're brutal. Before you go in, try clearing it out. You can stand at the bottom of the ramp and fire some shock-combos inside. Alternatively, load up rockets, charge in, and then just rocket-jump past anyone who jumps you. Spamming the ramp with the flak cannon can also thin out guards before you make a dash for it.

If you can snag the high route, do it! Going up lifts can leave chasers stuck below, and it's an easy way to drop down for a quick escape, maybe grabbing health and armor on the way. Plus, fewer enemies patrol the high route, giving you a shot at a clear run. If you take the low route but use the lifts, be ready to blast a shock-combo into the upper rooms as you turn the corner – there's almost always someone waiting. Before dropping into the flag room from the upper ledge, try lobbing some spread rockets in; it can flush out campers.

Pro Tip: This map is great for flanking. Just run through hallways and bounce grenades off walls behind you to catch up with pursuers.

Defense Strategy for Dreary

Defending Dreary is way easier than attacking. Grab the Bio Rifle near the Shield-belt, then camp behind your flag with a charged slime ball ready. Any blue bot on the ramp will instantly eat it. Even if you miss, the slime creates a nasty obstacle. If you're worried about multiple attackers, there are plenty of spam weapons around, and the flag room itself has infinite flak ammo.

It can get a bit boring, though. Consider repositioning to one of the two armor rooms. These spots offer better options for attacking or retreating, depending on what your team is doing. While your bots can capture the flag if you set them to attack, you're still the most reliable option.

Miscellaneous Dreary Tips

  • You can get back to the high route from the flag room ramp. Jump at the vertical wall of the ledge, and you should land on an invisible platform that lets you hop up to the shock rifle.
  • A tapped hammer-jump can get you from the bottom floor to the middle platforms, and again from the middle to the upper beams.

CTF-Command

This 4v4 map is a nuclear processing station with a system-oriented layout. Its high-tech, voluminous industrial architecture and curving corridors demand quick reactions. It's a blast online, but bots can be exploited, making matches quicker.

Power-ups and Armor in Command:

  • Body Armour (2): One in the lower 'plans' room of each base.
  • Shield-belt: On a ceiling ledge in the red team's neutral zone.
  • UDamage (2): One in a pipe in the red base's high wall; another in a pipe on the side of the lower blue base.
  • Invisibility: In a pipe in the red base's high wall.

Attack Strategy for Command

The blue team has a slight edge because their base is tougher to crack. Beyond just a frontal assault, here are some ways to make grabbing the flag and escaping easier.

Head to the bottom of the big ramp in the blue base and place your T/L (Translocator) module on the bottom of the ramp (not the floor). You can then hammer-launch your T/L right up to the flag. Just be careful not to hit any light fixtures on the way.

A much sneakier method, often called 'tubing' and possibly banned on some servers, involves the red team's armor room. Look at the ceiling for holes. Throw your T/L up there at an angle so it lands on the upper floor. It takes practice, but if you nail it, you'll translocate to a small blue spawn room with health packs, which conveniently leads directly to the flag at the end of a pipe. You might get stuck under an overhead object, so be ready to throw your T/L again to escape. Once you're in the pipe, fire your T/L along it towards the blue flag. Activate it, grab the flag, and then bolt back along the pipe.
