Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, known in Japan as Game Boy Wars Advance 2, is the second game in the western Advance Wars series and fifth in the Japanese Game Boy Wars series. It introduces new COs, Units, and features. A remake is included in Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp for Nintendo Switch.

Plot

The Black Hole Army, having recovered from the war in Cosmo Land, launches a large-scale invasion of Macro Land with new weapons developed by Lash. Led by Sturm, Black Hole COs Flak, Lash, Adder, and Hawke are tasked with conquering Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet, and Green Earth, respectively. The Allied Nations must unite to repel the invasion. In the final confrontation, the Allied COs face Sturm at Black Hole's base, near the Death Ray. After destroying the Death Ray and disarming a missile set to destroy half of Wars World, Sturm attempts to self-destruct. Hawke betrays and kills Sturm, taking over Black Hole and retreating with his remaining troops.

New Unit

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising introduced the Neotank, developed by Black Hole, which became the strongest Tank in the game.

New Features

Several new terrain features were added:

Silos: Rocket-like projectiles fired by Infantry or Mech units, dealing 3 damage to all units in a two-square radius. Usable once per battle.
Pipeline and Pipe seams: Impenetrable pipes that obstruct movement, with destructible Pipe seams allowing passage.
Black Hole Weapons: Unique weapons used by the Black Hole faction, such as the Black Cannon, not available to the player.

New COs and CO powers

The game features new COs for each Force, with Black Hole gaining four additional ones. All COs now have a normal CO Power and a Super CO Power, with Sturm being an exception who only has a Super CO Power.
