Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising is the second game in the Western Advance Wars series and fifth in the Japanese Game Boy Wars series. It introduces new Commanding Officers (COs), units, and gameplay features. A remake is included in Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp for Nintendo Switch.

Plot

The Black Hole Army, having recovered from a previous conflict, launches a massive invasion of Macro Land, utilizing new weapons developed by Lash. Led by Sturm, Black Hole COs Flak, Lash, Adder, and Hawke are tasked with conquering the nations of Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet, and Green Earth, respectively. The Allied Nations must unite to repel the invasion. The campaign culminates in a final battle against Sturm at Black Hole's base, where the Death Ray, a weapon threatening to destroy half of Wars World, must be disabled. Hawke ultimately betrays and kills Sturm, taking command of the remaining Black Hole forces.

New Unit

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising introduced the Neotank, developed by Black Hole. It was the most powerful tank in the game.

New Features

Several new terrain features were added:

Silos: Rockets fired by Infantry or Mech units that deal 3 damage to all units in a two-square radius, usable once per battle.
Pipeline and Pipe seams: Impenetrable pipes that obstruct movement, with Pipe seams being destructible sections that allow passage.
Black Hole Weapons: Various unique weapons used exclusively by the Black Hole faction, such as the Black Cannon, which are unavailable to the player.

New COs and CO powers

The game features new COs for each Force, with Black Hole gaining four additional ones. All COs now have a standard CO Power and a Super CO Power, with Sturm being an exception who only has a Super CO Power.
