Guide to Sima Yi and Cao Cao in Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, including unlock conditions and fourth weapon locations.
Sima Yi
Sima Yi's fourth weapon is obtained in the Wu Zhang Plains stage on the Wei side. After approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, a supply team will appear near Zhang Bao's initial location. Defeating the captain of this supply team will trigger a special item report at the entry point southeast of Shu's base.
Sima Yi Attacks:
- Attack 1: Fan floats in a circle around him, slow but hits all nearby enemies.
- Attack 2: Fan flies straight up to juggle the enemy, visually appealing but slow.
- Attack 3: Creates a barrier and shoots a laser beam, both capable of dizzying enemies. This is a useful dizzy attack with direct and long-range hits.
- Attack 4: Creates an energy wave that blasts and knocks back foes, with good forward range for clearing enemies.
- Attack 5: Fan flies up to juggle the enemy higher than Attack 2.
- Attack 6: Shoots a series of laser beams; can be continued by tapping T. Beams are difficult to connect with but deal high damage.
- Musou Attack: Shoots an array of laser beams that blast enemies in front. Effective against archer groups and attackers.
- Running Attack: Glides forward with fan extended, knocking back enemies. Has great range and is very effective.
Overall Assessment: Sima Yi is considered better than Zhuge Liang but still suffers from a lack of range and power, though his moveset is more appealing, especially his running attack. He performs well in early stages but struggles in higher-difficulty ones.
Advanced Strategies: Sima Yi's weaknesses are similar to Zhuge Liang's, but his moveset is superior. His SSST attack is effective, especially with the fourth weapon's lightning element which enhances range. His Musou attack is easier to aim as he stands still and can be effective against single targets up close. However, he remains relatively weak with limited range.
Cao Cao
Cao Cao, the Wei ruler, is described as the "hero of a troubled land," skilled in arts and warfare, and author of numerous strategy books. He joined the Imperial army during the Yellow Turban Rebellion and distinguished himself in battle. After Dong Zhuo's death, he consolidated power in the central plains, laying the groundwork for the Wei Empire.
Unlocking Cao Cao: Clear Musou mode (story mode) with two Wei generals.
Description: Wears bluish purple robes, wields a sword, and is considered the ultimate badass of the Three Kingdoms.
Cao Cao's Fourth Weapon: Wrath of Heaven. Obtainable in the Yellow Turban Stage on the Han side. You must defeat Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang without any gates being lost. After this, a supply team will appear at the northwest enemy entry point and proceed to the top-center entry point. Defeat the supply captain to acquire the weapon. This is best attempted with two players, with Cao Cao as Player 1 and a powered-up character as Player 2. Both should equip the Red Hare Saddle. Player 2 should defeat the general on the east end near the dropping boulders while Cao Cao hides. Once Player 2 is safe, Cao Cao should defeat the general on the west end. After morale messages, the supply captain will appear. Ride Red Hare to the northwest gate, then move toward the central gate to intercept and defeat the supply captain. Finally, defeat the boss to clear the stage. This weapon is challenging to obtain but rewarding.
Cao Cao Attacks:
- Attack 1: Basic frontal slash, useful for groups directly in front.
- Attack 2: Standard upward slash that juggles enemies.
- Attack 3: Forward slash that dizzies enemies, with a limited range but useful for those directly in front.
- Attack 4: Wide sweeping sword hit that knocks back enemies a considerable distance, but only affects those in front.
- Attack 5: High upward slash, a standard juggling move.
- Attack 6: A wide slash that can be followed by a rapid series of attacks by continuously pressing T. This allows for quickly clearing groups and is devastating with Cao Cao's fourth weapon.
- Musou Attack: A rapid series of sword strikes that can deal high damage or clear crowds if many hits connect.
- Running Attack: A lunging strike that dizzies enemies.
