Gan Ning

“You’re in good hands… you’re in MY hands! Ha ha ha ha!”

History: A former pirate who served Liu Biao and Huang Zu before joining Sun Quan. He fought at Chi Bi and in the campaign against Wei.

Unlocking: He Fei stage, Wei scenario. After Gan Ning appearance event, defeat Gan Ning. (Musou mode only)

Description: Wears no shirt, has red pants with bells, and carries a fairly big sword.

Stages Played: Pirate Attack on the High Seas, The Battle at Chi Bi 208 AD, The Battle at He Fei 215 AD, The Battle at Fan Castle 219 AD, The Battle at Yi Ling 222 AD, The Nanman Campaign 225 AD, The Siege of He Fei Castle 234 AD.

Fourth Weapon: He Fei stage, Wu side. Wait for the Taishi Ci death event. A supply team will appear at the entry point at the northwest of the map and head toward the entry point on the southwest side of the map. Kill the captain to get the item.

Attacks:

  • Attack 1: Sweeping strike with good range and frontal clearing ability, slight delay.
  • Attack 2: Uppercut punch, a standard juggling move.
  • Attack 3: Powerful sword slash that dizzies foes, hits enemies on your right side.
  • Attack 4: Sweeping strike, good speed, knocks back enemies in front, poor forward range.
  • Attack 5: Upward slash that juggles enemies high, can hit a group.
  • Attack 6: Stomps the ground twice, sending out damaging shockwaves, hard to connect with.
  • Musou Attack: Rushes enemy with sword, strikes at the end. Useful for escaping danger, taking out groups, or rushing archers.
  • Running Attack: Knee strike, hard to connect with, dizzies if it hits.

Overall Assessment: Gan Ning is very fast with movement and attacks. Well-balanced with fair attacks, though not as effective as some sword wielders. His Musou attack takes getting used to.

Advanced Strategy: Gan Ning is a solid character focused on speed. His Musou attack is difficult to score multiple hits with, except for the spinning slashes at the end. Try to position yourself close to powerful enemies for the final hits. Use the move to cut through crowds and escape. Benefits from a longer Musou bar.

Lu Meng

“I have nothing against you… but this is war!”

History: An accomplished warrior who devoted himself to learning, becoming a paradigm of wisdom and valor. He greatly admired by Lu Su. Together with Lu Xun, they retook Jing Province, capturing Guan Yu.

Unlocking: Clear the Fan Castle stage with Lu Meng still alive (Musou mode only).

Description: Dude with a spear. Not much funny to say about him.

Stages Played: Pirate Attack on the High Seas, The Yellow Turban Rebellion 184 AD, The Battle at Hu Lao Gate 191 AD, The Battle at Chi Bi 208 AD, The Battle at Fan Castle 219 AD, The Battle at Yi Ling 222 AD, The Siege of He Fei Castle 234 AD.

Fourth Weapon: Fan Castle stage, Allied Side. Kill Guan Ping. The Precious item will appear southeast of the Wei base, on the middle level platform. Grab it and finish the stage.

Attacks:

  • Attack 1: Sweeping halberd strike, a little slow, hits enemies around you.
  • Attack 2: Wide halberd strike, hits multiple enemies, juggles them.
  • Attack 3: Downward swing, decent forward range, dizzies enemies in front.
  • Attack 4: Short-ranged spinning attack, knocks back enemies right next to you.
  • Attack 5: Upward strike, standard high juggling move.
  • Attack 6: Shoots out a shockwave, does a lot of damage, can cut through enemies in front, hard to connect with. If he has his fourth weapon, this will charge enemies with lightning when hit.
  • Musou Attack: Rapid fire series of attacks. Can clear enemies, but better suited for heavy damage to a single foe.
  • Running Attack: Forward body attack, good forward range, knocks back enemies.

Overall Assessment: Lu Meng is the official standard spear wielding guy for Wu. He gets decent crowd control and well-rounded abilities. However, he lacks pizzazz.
