Master Part 40 of Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered! Get walkthroughs for Yellow Turban Rebellion and Battle of Hu Lao Gate, plus item locations.

Hey there! Welcome to Part 40 of our Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered journey. Just a heads-up, this guide is meant to give you the general flow of each stage and point out any important stuff you need to watch out for. Battles can get pretty wild and change up on the fly, so don't take this as the absolute gospel. Also, keep in mind that when you beat the game with certain characters, they might pop up as bosses in later stages, even if historically they should be long gone. It's a cool way the game keeps things interesting!

184 AD: Yellow Turban Rebellion – Han vs Turbans

This is a pretty straightforward stage, which is why it's a starting point for a bunch of characters. You'll be playing as characters like Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Huang Zhong, Wei Yan (Shu), Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, Xu Huang (Wei), or Sun Jian, Huang Gai, Lu Meng, Da Qiao (Wu).

Han Side Strategy:

There are three main troublemakers you need to keep an eye on:

  • Zhang Liang: He starts on the west side. His main trick is freezing the northern river to let enemy troops storm the castle. Annoyingly, he'll do this again when he dies, so killing him doesn't completely stop the freezing. If that happens, you might need to rush back and defend your HQ.
  • Zhang Bao: Found on the east side, he'll be dropping boulders on your troops, which really messes with morale. When you go to take him out, you'll need to dodge these damaging boulders. It's best to take out Zhang Liang and Zhang Bao first, depending on which side you start on.
  • Zhang Jiao: He's the boss and you'll need to defeat him twice to clear the stage. If you leave him alone, your allies will probably handle him. He might even teleport inside the castle, but again, your allies will likely deal with him. If you want to get the power-up he drops, you'll have to beat him yourself. After his first defeat, he'll teleport to the north end of the stage and reappear a few minutes later. Go take him down again, but watch out for his fire attacks.

Yellow Turban Side Strategy:

This is basically the flip side of the Han mission. Your goal is to take out the enemies around the castle and then push your way inside. The enemies here are tougher, including Liu Bei and his brothers, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian with their troops. When you enter the castle, be ready for an ambush party. The final showdown with He Jin is pretty easy, though he has decent stamina, so use your powerful moves to finish him off quickly.

Snacks and Wines

Keep an eye out for these helpful items:

  • Snack: Located in a pot near the river on the North side of the outer fortress wall.
  • Snack: Found at the second protrusion from the North on the East castle wall.
  • Wine: On the map, look slightly below the center, near the left side, in a pot.
  • Wine: Situated at the second protrusion from the South on the West castle wall.

191 AD: Battle of Hu Lao Gate – Allies vs Dong Zhuo

This stage can be a breeze if you know the drill. You'll be playing as characters from Shu, Wei, or Wu, including heavy hitters like Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Cao Cao, Dian Wei, Sun Jian, Sun Ce, and Zhou Yu, among others.

Key Objectives & Strategy:

  • Take Out Gate Guards: It's super important to defeat every gate guard you encounter. If you don't, more enemy troops will keep pouring out, making things harder.
  • Level Grinding: There are plenty of lesser officers scattered around, making this a great stage to power up weaker characters.
  • Musou Max Up: Head towards the Gate in the middle of the map (Fan Shui). Climb the stairs to the top to grab a Musou Max Up item.
  • Watch Out for Lu Bu: Early in the stage, Lu Bu will show up. If your character isn't very strong yet, it's best to avoid him. Let your allies engage him while you focus on other objectives.
  • Ambush! As you make your way to the boss area, specifically when you reach the curved point at the bottom of the map, Dong Zhuo's forces will spring an ambush with archers in the hills. Hang back and take them out from a distance. Rushing in will cost you a lot of health!
  • Hu Lao Gate Assault: Once you reach Hu Lao Gate, an assault unit will appear. Your job is to protect the assault captain until the gate falls. If the captain gets killed, your progress will be delayed, and you'll have to fight Li Ru's unit before the gate opens (he appears either way, but you avoid fighting him if the gate falls quickly). Be aware of archers in the watchtowers above you.
  • Diao Chan: After you get through the gate, you'll encounter Diao Chan. She's pretty weak, so taking her out should be easy.
  • Max Life Up: After dealing with Diao Chan, climb the stairs, take out the archers, and grab the Max Life power-up.
  • Secure the Walls: Drop back down and stick close to the walls. Take out the three gate captains to prevent more enemies from reinforcing Dong Zhuo. Try to keep Dong Zhuo himself from joining the fight too early.
  • The Boss Fight: Once you've dealt with the captains, you can engage the main boss. If you've followed these steps, you should have good backup, and Dong Zhuo should be manageable. Just be careful of his powerful combo attacks.

Note: During this stage, you'll also encounter other notable figures, but focus on the objectives to secure your victory!
