Learn how to defeat Onryoki and Derrick in Nioh's Isle of Demons mission. Includes boss moves and Living Weapon strategy.
Walkthrough
- 1Begin the fight against Onryoki, who has two forms. In his first form, he is chained and uses his chains to attack. Be wary of his "Chain Twirl" attack when you get close, as it has a 360-degree radius and hits hard. His "Chain Slam" can be dodged by reacting to his arms.
- 2After dealing enough damage, Onryoki's chains will come off, entering his second form. This form has more combo potential but is generally easier. He will spawn Yokai Realm mist frequently; purify it when possible. Counter-attack safely, especially after his "Belly Flop" attack.
- 3When Onryoki is at about 33% health, unleash your Living Weapon (CIRCLE + TRIANGLE) to finish him off.
- 4After defeating Onryoki, a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) (a non-interactive cinematic sequence) will play.
- 5Phase 2 of the fight begins against Derrick. He is bigger and badder but has no new moves. Dodge his "Charge" attack and counter him as before.
- 6Continue dodging his "Charge" attack and countering until the game prompts you to unleash your Living Weapon (CIRCLE + TRIANGLE).
- 7Once you unleash Saoirse (your Living Weapon), another cutscene will play, concluding the fight.
Boss Moves:
- Onryoki - Double-Chain Slam: (First form) When you get close, Onryoki slams both ball and chains at you overhead. Dash to the side once or twice to dodge and counter.
- Onryoki - Chain Twirl: (First form) Triggers when you get close, hitting hard with a 360-degree radius.
- Onryoki - Chain Slam: (First form) Can be dodged by reacting to Onryoki's arms.
- Onryoki - Belly Flop: (Second form) A safe attack to counter-attack after.
- Derrick - Axe Combo: Derrick's basic attack, can be a single downward stroke or up to three swings. Best to stay out of range.
- Derrick - Charge Attack: Derrick's ranged attack, a forward charge with a slash at the end. Dodge to the side (left is recommended) to avoid it and get in quick attacks. This is his primary attack pattern.
Tips
- Onryoki has a lot of health and hits hard; stock up on Elixirs (you can carry eight) and consider using bombs or Onmyo Magic and Ninjutsu.
- If you struggle with Onryoki, consider leveling up, checking your gear, or summoning a ronin (an NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) ally) at the shrine using an Ochoko Cup (a consumable item used to summon help).
- Derrick is described as a "one-trick pony" due to his reliance on the "Charge" attack, making him easy to defeat by repeatedly dodging and countering.
