Walkthrough

    Head down the stairs from the shrine to find a torture room with lootable bodies. One body contains the "Final Blow" tutorial (press TRIANGLE) near a downed enemy.

    Head up the stairs to a room with a Knight and a Guard. Defeat the Knight first while it is in the corner, then defeat the Guard.

    Ascend the stairs in this room to reach a higher area. To the left, you will find a [_BIG CHEST_]. Near the wall is a body that provides the "Drop Attack" tutorial.

    Drop down and proceed up the stairs in front of you to face Derrick the Executioner.

    After defeating Derrick, a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) will play, followed by Phase 2 of the fight. Derrick gains no new moves. Continue to dodge his "Charge" attack and counter.

    When prompted, unleash your LIVING WEAPON (CIRCLE + TRIANGLE) to finish the fight.

    After the fight, a cutscene will play, and you will receive the "A Long Journey Begins" Bronze Trophy upon completing "The Man with the Guardian Spirit".

    Another cutscene will show William traveling to Japan.

    Before starting the next mission, you will be prompted to choose your preferred weapon.
Tips
  • Derrick the Executioner looks imposing but is an easy warm-up boss.
  • Maintain distance from Derrick to bait his "Charge" attack.
  • Dodge Derrick's "Charge" attack to the side (left is recommended) and land a few hits. This strategy works for the entire fight, including Phase 2.
  • Derrick's "Axe Combo" has some reach, so stay out of range, especially when trying to bait his "Charge" attack.
  • The "Drop Attack" can be used to defeat the Guard in the room before Derrick if you wish.

Boss Encounter: Derrick the Executioner

Derrick attacks with a large Executioner Axe, giving him some range. His primary close-range attack is an up to three-swing combo. The recommended strategy is to stay at a distance and bait his "Charge" attack. When he charges, dodge to the side and land hits. This tactic is effective throughout the entire fight, even in his Yokai form.

Derrick's Moves:

  • Axe Combo: Derrick's basic attack, consisting of up to three swings. Stay out of range.
  • Charge Attack: Derrick charges forward with a slash. Dodge to the side and counter-attack. This is his main attack and can be exploited for an easy win.

Choosing Your Weapon:

You will be presented with the following weapon choices:

  • SWORD: Attribute Bonus: HEART +1. A single-handed slashing weapon with good reach, suitable for thrusts. Well-balanced and easy to use.
  • DUAL SWORDS: Attribute Bonus: SKILL +1. A pair of swords.
