Learn how to defeat Onryoki in Nioh! This guide details Onryoki's attacks in both forms and provides strategies to counter each move, including tips on using items and calling for help.
If you are having trouble with Onryoki, be sure to stock up on Elixirs (you can carry eight) and use your bomb stock. If you're really having trouble, consider leveling up some more, check your gear, or even call for help from a ronin at the shrine with an Ochoko Cup.
BOSS MOVES:
First Form Attacks:
- Double-Chain Slam: Onryoki slams both of his ball and chains at you in an overhead fashion. Dash to the side once or twice to avoid and get in a quick hit or two. Watch out for the Chain Twirl attack afterwards.
- Chain Twirl: This attack is triggered if you stay close to Onryoki for too long and can happen after any other attack. He twirls around, slinging his ball and chains. This is extremely dangerous, and the reason you can't be too greedy when attacking.
- One-Two Chain Slam: Similar to the double-chain slam, but Onryoki slams one chain after the other. React to the leading arm quickly to dodge left or right and attack safely.
Second Form Attacks:
- Claw Swipes: Onryoki swipes at you twice if you get in front of him, moving forward with each swipe. Dash under his arm if you're quick, or back away to be safe.
- Ball Throw: Onryoki picks up one of his two giant iron balls and throws it at you. Lock onto the boss and dash left or right to avoid the ball. Get near the boss afterwards to counter-attack.
- Belly Flop: Onryoki does two claw swipes ahead of him, then twists his body for a leaping belly flop. He can adjust his jump mid-air, so be ready to dash. Backing up initially allows you to wait for the flop, then dash in to punish him.
- Leaping Smash: Onryoki grasps his hands together, jumps forward, and tries to smash you. Dodge backwards to get away, or dodge to the side to punish him afterwards and potentially get rid of the defiled mist.
- Grab Attack: If you get too close, Onryoki may try to grab you. Dodging away or to the side is necessary. If grabbed, he damages you twice: once by biting and again by throwing you to the ground.
